Room for a Little One: A Christmas Tale Review: Beautiful illustrations and caring words - This has the best illustrations that I’ve ever seen!! The book is perfect for a bedtime story … not too preachy, just a story of caring and love! Review: Sweet, Beautiful Book - This is a sweet, beautiful book. It's a large picture book and each page is as beautiful as the cover. Pictures take up the whole page with the text embedded in the picture. I used to teach first grade and we would read lots of different versions of the same story or theme. I still do this today for my own son, who turned 5 right after Christmas. Last year we did the 12 days of Christmas. (He was into counting.) This year, we did the nativity story. This was my favorite version we read. Animals come to the stable one after another and the kind ox invites each one to come in to share his shelter. Children love this kind of repetition, they feel both empowered by knowing what is going to happen next (another animal will come to the door) and curious (what animal will it be this time?) One theme of the book is that of animals that are usually predator and prey are calling a truce for their mutual benefit of a warm, safe place. That theme will be lost on young children - to them, of course all the animals would stay together to be warm! A theme that does come through loud and clear is kindness and sharing. The ox has a warm place to sleep and invites others to share it with him rather than just keep it to himself. Finally, donkey comes to the door. Donkey is carrying Mary. Ox invites Donkey and his family in and Mary has baby Jesus during the night. It's a different point of view on Mary and Joseph. Rather than being on the outside with Mary and Joseph wondering where they will stay, we are on the inside safe and warm with Ox, and we see Mary and Joseph on the outside. I think this helps young children understand the predicament Mary and Joseph were in at a very basic level - They needed a warm place to stay and have their baby. Children don't understand taxes, let alone journeying to pay them. Nor do they really understand the concept of an inn or hotel and no one having any openings - it's outside their sphere of understanding. But children understand needing to be safe and warm. A beautiful book with a beautiful story and message.

Cute addition to Christmas Story Collection
This is a very short and sweet Christmas story that gives tribute to the birth of Jesus. I bought this to add to our traditional bedtime stories as we approach Christmas. My child loves it.

A beautiful book
I bought this some years ago to read to my grandchildren. It is a lovely, sweet book, perfect for children. My grandchildren love it. It's a Christmas story told from the viewpoint of the animals that shared their stable with each other and with the Holy Family. It's about putting aside any hostilities in order to help those in need. It's message is simple, not preachy. Now I give this as a gift for new babies.

Room for a Little One by Martin Waddell & Jason Cockcroft
I ordered a 'new' hardback copy of this book through Amazon.com. The book was sent from Internationalbooks. The book arrived in 12 days and while it is a beautiful book the cover page had a very long inscription to a grandson of Grammy from Thanksgiving 2009. The name is not the name of my great grandson, and the writing covers almost half the page so I cannot change, erase or write over it. I assumed a 'new' book meant a book no one had written in. The description did not say -good as new- but I will not assume any books from this site is really new! The book is a great book and my grandson will love the colors, pictures and the story. His new book will just be missing a cover page. I ordered 3 books at same time, all about Christmas for children, the other two were just perfect and all were sent from different sellers.

I purchased this for my 18 month old little granddaughter in December, in anticipation of Christmas. I was looking for a book with both beautiful illustrations and a text I would love to read to her repeatedly. It is a very gentle story of Jesus' birth that has a simple but exquisite text accompanying the most exquisite illustrations. 6 months later, it remains our favourite book to read together. Repeatedly.

A beautiful story and gorgeous illustrations. It tells the story of Jesus’ birth but in a very gentle, non-dogmatic way. It’s perfect to introduce young children to the nativity story.
