A Reliable Waterproofing Solution for Deck Construction
I recently used Dongxw Butyl Joist Tape to protect the joists and beams of my new deck from water damage. I was impressed with the quality of the tape and how easy it was to apply. The tape is made of a thick, durable butyl rubber that is waterproof and resistant to UV rays. It's also self-adhesive, so it was easy to apply to the joists and beams. I simply cut the tape to the desired length and pressed it onto the wood. The tape adhered well and created a tight seal that will prevent water from seeping into the wood and causing rot. I'm confident that the Dongxw Butyl Joist Tape will help extend the life of my deck by protecting the structural members from water damage. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable waterproofing solution for their deck construction project.

Good product to use
We are at the prep stage of putting in 20 joists for our decking. The tape is easy to use, seems to be good value and easy to apply. I think it looks very professional once on and we have high hopes of it helping to slow down the rot on the joists.

Pretty good
Was installing some decking and only needed a small amount to make the top of the beams waterproof. Was easy to install, good value for money for what I needed it for in my project and went onto the beams really well.

quality tape, sticks really well.
seems quality and sticks well. A bit annoying sometimes taking the thin film off as it tends to peel unevenly but the tape is really good.

Tedious to apply
Applying this decking tape was a real struggle. My batch seems way different from the earlier reviews because the backing was incredibly hard to remove – it kept tearing instead of peeling off cleanly. Honestly, it was pretty annoying. Once I got it off, it stuck to the joists no problem, but I'm still on the fence about its long-term durability.

Durable and Waterproof Butyl Joist Tape – Ideal for Deck Protection
I recently used this butyl joist tape for a decking project, and I’m very impressed with the results. The 5cm x 15.2m size is generous, providing ample coverage for sealing and protecting deck joists. The self-adhesive backing is strong and makes installation quick and easy. Once applied, it forms a tight, waterproof seal that helps protect the wood from moisture and rot, extending the life of the deck. The black colour blends well with most deck materials, giving a neat and professional finish. This tape is highly durable, designed to withstand outdoor conditions, and remains securely in place even after exposure to rain and varying temperatures. It also works well for repairing and sealing other wood and metal surfaces, making it versatile for various outdoor projects. Overall, this butyl joist tape is an excellent solution for anyone looking to protect and preserve their decking or other exposed wood surfaces. It’s easy to apply, long-lasting, and offers great protection against moisture. Highly recommended for DIYers and professionals alike!

Good tape AWFUL backing
Bought two lots of this tape for a Decking project. First lot fine, does what it should. Had to buy some more. First lot has a clear fairly thick backing which has to be removed. Second lot different labelling but same stuff from same manufacturer BUT with a different backing. The second lot has a blue backing tape which rips at edges every time you remove it, leaving you try and pull off “threads” of the ripped backing. Unless you remove it it won’t adhere properly. Due to the nature of the tape it is incredibly sticky and it’s as frustrating as hell trying to remove ripped traces of this blue backing. I should have returned it as not being usable but stuck as needed to finish the decking. So I likely wasted an extra hour removing endless bits of this blue backing to use the actual tape. Clearly manufacturer has cheapened the manufacturing costs with this fragile backing which will cost you hours !!! If you get the stuff with blue backing, send it back, you’ll thank me !!!

I put the tape on a dirty, damp, pressure treated 2x6. I wanted to try it on a dirty piece of wood because I saw a few reviews that stated the tape did not stick well. In my test, the tape worked exactly as the manufacturer stated. I experienced no rolling on any of the edges. I did my test in the sun, so maybe the sun helped… just a thought. I have no problems with this tape. It adheres well, it seals around any nail or screw holes. It will protect the joists for years. I just can’t think of a way it will fail. Pro: Wide enough to cover a 2” wide joist. The adhesive is strong enough to work on dirty, damp, pressure treated wood (my test piece). It self-seals around nails and screws. Con: None My take: I would use this item. Info: As a Vine reviewer, I realize how important my reviews are to consumers. I too rely on reviews in making my purchasing decisions. As such, I want to provide a valuable service to those considering purchasing the products I review. Also, since I must pay taxes on the retail value of the products I receive (in my case, about 40%—broken down as 15.3% in SS/Med taxes, and 25% Fed. Income taxes), I endeavor to provide an honest review of every item I receive. FYI, my stars are valued as follows: 1 Star: Do not buy. This item has serious flaws. 2 Stars: Do not buy. Not as bad as a 1 Star, but it still has major downsides. 3 Stars: Buy if you can’t find an alternative. There are some issues that need worked out. 4 Stars: Recommend purchase. This item met my expectations. 5 Stars: I love this product.

Butyl tape is one of those things that make me wonder why nobody came up with it earlier... The idea is awesome, as butyl tape prevents water from sitting on the horizontal surfaces of your wood decking joists. This is especially helpful when you are replacing deck boards, as now there are holes in the joists from the old deck board fasteners. Butyl tape will prevent water from getting into the old fastener holes, while also keeping your joist surfaces free from moisture. This tape works like the rest. It has a nice, strong adhesion, and wraps nicely around new fasteners that pass through the tape, ensuring for a water-resistant space where the fasteners pass through. My only gripe about this butyl tape is the same as otherr butyl tapes out there - I wish the tape to be a little wider. Even 2-1/4" would be helpful. As this tape is 2", you need to take your time when applying to typical joist boards, so as not to deviate too far to either side, potentially leaving some surface wood exposed. I recognize I may be too picky with this, so I do not deduct and stars, but it still leaves me wanting for just a little bit wider tape. The industry should take note. Thank you for reading my review.

I think this a okay general deck joist tape - it does the job! I recently had the chance to compare 4 different lesser known brands of deck joist tape. Each of the products look the same, a smooth pliable black outer layer, with a fairly thick sticky gray adhesive on the inside protected by a peel-away layer that prevents the tape from sticking to itself. I placed strips of each to a piece of PT wood, and left out in the sun and elements for days, and then tested which ones adhered the best. I found that the results were pretty close. They all stuck pretty well, even after just a few days. I found that Dongxw stuck the worst in my line up as it was the least difficult to peel off out of the 4 that I tested, although the rest were all pretty close contenders (with marginal difference in adhesion strength). Although this was the easiest to peel off, it still stuck well in several areas, and, given more time certainly would have adhered even better, and there really isn't much worry about it coming off, as you will be nailing deck boards over this holding it down even more. Despite the results, I would have no trouble trusting this for my next deck job, and it's certainly better than nothing. I think it's a decent general deck joist tape that will ultimately get the job done!

I needed to lay 20 strips of 14.5 inch tape across a gap that allowed water to get behind facia covering a deck beam. I was worried that over time trapped moisture could weaken the beam which would spell big trouble. At first when I saw this tape I was thinking "glory, glory just what I need!" Euphoria quickly evaporated when I went for the second piece. I lucked out the first time but after that it was Katy bar the door. I attribute the problem to a kind of manufacture's myopia. This is probably what the doctor ordered for some, perhaps many applications. But it flopped miserably for me. The tarry sticky side would make Spiderman envious for it's grabby sticky never- let-go property and that is why I gave it three stars even though it probably deserves just two. But this is where the myopia steps up. It used to be in the olden days a child could rip into a piece of cellophane wrapped candy with just their baby teeth and if necessary almost with their gums. Today it takes the teeth of a saber tooth to open up a mini anything with teeth and at that you risk losing a fang. The super-thin, super-strong clear plastic that protects the sticky side of the tape because of its thinness stays as attached as an alligator's hide except it is so thin it is extremely difficult to get a purchase on it. I tried slipping a new razor blade between the gooey black and the fused clear skin on its back with no luck at all. The goo is so latched to the clear remora fastened to its back it took 10 minutes to finally expose a second 14.5 inch piece. With 20 more to go I could feel my blood pressure rising. I had to find a better solution. I had a roll of the material used to protect the connection of ledger boards to siding. A little more than twice the width of the tape, almost as sticky and grippy if not equally so, with easily removable non-sticking paper protecting the sticky side. The job was finished in a tenth of the time struggling with all those pieces of this tape would have cost. So that thin thin plastic on the back side of the tape might make manufacturing it cheaper and easier but the built in problem of getting it off the back of the tape is telling the user of the product to kiss off.
