I’ve used a lot of hubs over the years, and most fall into two categories: “limited” or “temperamental.” The Aqara M3 has ended up being the brains of my smart home — but I’ll be honest, we had a rocky start. Setup – mostly smooth Getting it up and running was straightforward, and adding devices was quick. It immediately felt like a more capable, future-proof hub compared to many others I’ve used. Connectivity superpowers This thing is a proper multi-protocol workhorse: ✔ Zigbee devices pair fast and stay connected ✔ Matter devices integrate nicely ✔ Acts as a Thread Border Router ✔ Brings multiple ecosystems together in one place It’s reduced my hub clutter and made automations far more centralised. The UniFi hiccup (and excellent support) I did run into some early issues using it on a UniFi Network setup. Certain Matter connections were being stubborn and things weren’t behaving as expected. Here’s where Aqara really impressed me: their support team stepped in, made some backend adjustments remotely (actual wizardry), and after that everything settled down and started working properly. Since then, it’s been solid. So if you’re on a more advanced network and hit issues, don’t panic — support clearly knows their stuff. Reliability – the real win Since getting past that initial network quirk, the M3 has been excellent. - Automations trigger quickly - Devices stay connected - No random reboots or “offline” moods It’s the kind of device you stop thinking about — which is exactly what you want from a smart home hub. Local control = fast responses A lot of automations run locally, so things respond quickly and don’t fall over if the internet has a wobble. Lights and buttons feel instant, not cloud-delayed. Verdict Early networking hiccup aside (which support sorted quickly), the Aqara M3 has turned into a rock-solid, extremely capable hub. If you want one hub to handle Zigbee, Matter, and Thread and you value strong support behind it, this is an easy recommendation. Now it just quietly runs the house like a tiny, sensible overlord.

I had to come back and change my review. I just had to. I had some issues with the hub and sockets, the Aqara CS was top! They’ve sent the replacements and provided support. I wanted to leave a 4* review, but the CS is so good, you have to give them 5*, especially when everything works now as it should !

I'm gradually building my smart home and wanted a hub that could integrate with Home Assistant, work offline, and still support features like the Aqara G3's facial recognition. After five months, it's working well, with a few important details to keep in mind: Zigbee Support: The hub supports Zigbee but only for Aqara Zigbee devices. If you have other Zigbee brands, they won’t work directly with the M3 hub. Matter Connectivity: Matter devices, such as plugs and lights, do work. But I seem to get the best results if I connect them to the M3 hub first, then add them to other ecosystems like Home Assistant or Apple HomeKit. But this is just personal preference. Infrared (IR) Control: The M3’s infrared sensor works well for controlling devices like TVs and heaters. However, only Aqara devices connected to the M3 will show up in Home Assistant, not the infrared or Matter devices. To work around this, I’ve set up an Aqara button that works in both the Aqara app and Home Assistant. In the Aqara app, for example, a single button press turns on the TV, while in Home Assistant, that same press triggers automations to control non-Matter devices. Offline Functionality: The M3 is connected via Ethernet, and I’ve restricted its internet access, allowing it to function mostly offline. However, for some automation adjustments, internet access may need to be restored briefly. Expectations: When the M3 was first announced, I expected more from its Zigbee capabilities. But since I use Home Assistant for broader automation, this wasn’t a major issue. In practice, it has become a solid addition to my smart home setup. Overall, if you’re considering purchasing the Aqara M3 hub, as long as you're aware of its limitations and capabilities—especially regarding device compatibility—you likely won’t be disappointed. It's a compact size and good value for money considering what it can do. If you can get it reduced, even better. I'm giving the M3 4 stars, as I can't give it 4.5 due to the review system. It doesn't deserve a full 5 because it's not fully Zigbee compliant, but it's close.

I upgraded to the Aqara Smart Hub M3 to replace my old Aqara hub, and I’m so glad I did! The setup was a breeze, and it integrates seamlessly with all my smart devices. The hub supports Matter, Thread, Zigbee, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, making it incredibly versatile. It works perfectly with Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, SmartThings, and IFTTT, giving me full control over my home automation. It's a fantastic, reliable hub with excellent connectivity. Highly recommended!

It's a great device if you are on the Aqara ecosystem with their devices. I feel the features are a little limited and the automation's didn't work very well for me. The infra red system is good for controlling your TV and other devices. However, I bought this only because I could not get thread and matter working on my Home Assistant setup. It integrated as an Apple home kit device with no problems, however when using my android phone to add matter devices to it which again worked with no issues, it embedded it's thread credentials deep into my phone somewhere. I could not then sync my home assistant thread details as the Aqara hub was now my preferred network. There is no easy way to remove this on android, after a lot of searching I found the only way was to clear all the data in Google play service's, that essentially bricked my phone. I was able to recover from it eventually (make sure you have another device that can log into your Google account!!!) after hours of setting it back up. I will never plug it in again and will be sending it back. Got my Home Assistant working with a cheap £20 Sonoff dongle lite MG21 so no need to pay such a high price for the M3 hub.

I never managed to get this to work. The two Aqara locks I tried had factory defects. The app used for connecting the hub and the lock cyles through a confusing array of "scan the QR code"/"can't connect to Bluetooth"/"something went wrong", without making it clear what you're trying to accomplish, or which of the THREE DIFFERENT QR CODES on the hub or the two on the lock, you're supposed to scan. Hugely frustrating all around.

Using this with U200 smart door lock and G410 video door bell from aqura. I already had the door bell and lock so adding the hub was abit of a pain as I had to repair the lock and door bell to the hub. If I had the hub first I wouldn’t see it as an issue. But works well I am able to control the lock and door bell outside the home. Also I have pair this up to home assistant great job.

I am a big Aqara fanboy, so I was pleased to see the M3 Hub released. I got it on a deal price—it seems to come on deals a lot, so don't pay full price unless you have to! The hub is easy to set up, and it does what it says.
