Fantastic......till it stopped working :-(
I YouTube'd this Chessnut Evo to death. It was probably more than I wanted to spend on a digital chessboard. But having recently started playing chess with my brother in Oz (I'm in the UK) on Chess.com with iPads, I thought it would really enhance the experience. It really did, fantastically. I was so impressed that I ordered him one too, direct from Chessnut and got them to ship it to him. So we both ended up playing on Evo's. It's been great. I since ordered a set of the wooden pieces for myself and him. They are much nicer to use and look at. So everything was rosy, then yesterday it stopped working. The screen was blank and wouldn't switch on. It was near fully charged but nothing. I tried the 'reset' button but still nothing. I was gutted. So reluctantly I've returned it to Amazon. My brother's Evo is still working fine and he loves it. I'm back on the iPad :-( Having read the reviews of others I've realised that my box had no seal and no screen protector either. I hope Chessnut sort out all these annoyances because it is a fantastic self- contained package. UPDATE: I originally gave the Evo a 3* rating, which was a bit harsh to be honest. At the time I was very disappointed that it just stopped working. All said and done it is a great chess computer and I miss it. So much so that I've decided to order another one to replace it. I've also got an Air+ and a Pro with the premium pieces. But for having everything in one piece of equipment....... the Evo is the way to go IMHO. Mind and treat yourself to the better wooden pieces though, the supplied plastic ones are a bit naff :-( FYI Amazon were great with their returning policy and method, do easy now. Chess tech, the makers of the board, are really helpful too. All emails were answered and resolved within two days. Hope this helps.

best chess computer so far
I have owned many chess computers over the years but this is the best. My only criticism is the pieces could be heavier. One thing the manual doesn't mention is you need to download the Chess.com app from Aptoide in order to play their online bots. So when you get your Evo, use Firefox to install Aptoide and then install chess.com from within the Aptoide app. You will then have a Chess.com app in the apps section. It works really well with the board. As long as the developers keep supporting the software then this is a great buy, but if they do for some reason stop the support it could be an end of life device. But for now it's a fantastic way to play against online opponents and bots. The inbuilt bots are also great to play against.

Unbelievable
I was sitting on the fence for quite a while. Being I thought it's a bit expensive. But omg after receiving mine I am actually blown away and am thinking it's worth more! What an absolute piece of engineering and craftsmanship. Safe to say I'm very happy with my purchase. Update had to return due to a fault with the on button but amazon will refund so I just purchased another. It is seriously that good!

Great concept, just let down by quality control
So, I have had my Chessnut Evo for 2-months now and love it! Unfortunately the unit is starting to bow quite a bit and now rocks when on a flat surface, this appears to be a known issue! Additionally the LED screen has also started to bleed white light! Given these issues I am reluctantly going to return it. I would like to buy another Evo at some point if the bowing issue can be resolved.
