I'll start by saying I've tried a few media players in the past, but this kind of tech evolves quite quickly and can be soon feel outdated, as is the case with most electrical equipment. This Minix U8K-Ultra is an exception, because of the impressive specifications it actually appears quite future proof. Powerful processor and plenty of ram, with AI upscaler that enhances very well. Perfect for emulators to run demanding games and plays every type of media file I could throw at it. Good storage, plenty of connection options too. Included an 8K HD lead and a brilliant remote, with full keyboard on the reverse. I am beyond impressed with its performance and capability. Minix have created a fine addition to my home entertainment experience, which I have evaluated for many months before posting my review and I'm delighted to say I am so pleased to have chosen this particular brand and model, which at the time of writing is excellent value for what you are getting. It still doesn't feel outdated even now.

So far very impressed. Just one issue, is this a 64bit, only one of my apps requires 64bit but would not install, had to use the 32 bit version.? Still working fine and delivering better performance than previous versions.

Pity about this box. It is really fast, but it does have a few quirks. 1) Using the onscreen keyboard can be a bit hit and miss. 2) It does blue screen, not seen that since Windows ME. 3) There are one or two apps that it does not like, hence will not install. I am going to return this today, but I might try it again in a year's time. If you can ignore the minor problems, it would be a great box to own!

The day I received this unit I spent the evening setting it up and I really loved it so fast and responsive it was everything I was looking for. The next day I went to turn it on and it's stuck in boot loop! I spent many hours that day resetting it up again and again happy with the way it works, I want to turn it on the next day and it's stuck in boot loop again! Needless to say there's a very good reason why this unit has dropped in price so much. The only help is through the forum and nothing is updated in terms of software or firmware upgrades that can't fix the issues. And I tried everything. All the latest updates were installed.

I would say that this is a perfect home entertainment product from Minix! The product design, hardware configuration, outlook, connection ports as well as the accessories coming along with the package are far better than average. To be exact, MiniX U8K is far better than my expectation. The delivery from Amazon is speedy. I receive my new toy with 24 hours after I placed my order. God job Amazon UK! It is a very nice experience to unbox my MiniX U8K. It comes with not only the standard accessories, but also the AirMouse and an unexpected 8K HDMI cable, both will cost considerably if I need to buy separately. I really love the product manager of this model cause it does not simply provide the HDMI port but above all, the SPDIF optical port. This is very important to me as 4K TV is quite popular which I have one for years. But my AV amplifier support HD 1080p only. Frankly, you won't change your AV amplifier only to upgrade the video resolution support form HD to 4K or 8K if you do not have any complaints on your AV amplifier. Given the SPDIF optical port, I can enjoy the 5.1 sound effect by simply connect the Minix U8K and my AV amp with an optical cable. Great job MiniX! The set up is very simple. It took me less than 30 minutes to get it work. The video quality is amazing. Though my TV is only a 4K one, the image from a 4K Youtube video is appealing. I believe that it should be attributable to the AI upscaling. By installing the VPN, I can enjoy the TV programme from HK. Thank Lord! I really can't complain. You can tell the image quality from the photos I have uploaded. The last point I want to stress is that the glowing MiniX logo is so eye-catching! All in all, I love this new toy!

At this price the last thing I would expect is that the hardware, which is fantastic, is let down by dodgy firmware. When it works the picture quality is stunning. There is passthrough for the HD sound codecs, Dolby & DTS, and it allows the display of Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG. The problems appear to start up when you install apps which are not designed for Android TV. Playstore appears to think that the device is normal android and allows you the opportunity to install apps which are designed for normal Android. The current OS on this box is Android TV. This is, the real cause of the erratic reboots and glitches that this box displays occasionally. If they sort out the OS and possibly allow the customer a choice of what OS they want to install, then the erratic behaviour, I believe will stop. UPDATE: The issue for me appears to be related to heat within tge product. When I used a addditional cooling solution, the issue appears to have dissappear.

It's a bit pricey, but is a great TV box, for watching and streaming videos, or even a mini computer, since it runs android, and has excellent performance, with plenty of storage. It's good for gaming and emulation too, if you connect a Bluetooth controller. The remote is good, but you can also use a wireless mouse, which I prefer for navigation. I also like the ai upscaling, which improves lower resolution photos and videos for viewing on a 4k TV. Would definitely recommend if you want a powerful android TV box. However, if your needs are more modest, there are plenty of cheaper options.

Great when it's working but it keeps crashing. Then it gets stuck in reboot mode.Then I have to do a factory reset which is a pain in the bleep.DONT BUY

Attualmente possiedo un Nvidia Shield pro ma stanco di aspettare che uscisse un nuovo modello o deciso di acquistare un prodotto Minix x un futuro 8k ma anche da alcuni problemi sulla shield o collegato il Minix su TV LG OLED c1 tramite cavo belkin 2.1 che consiglio e in uscita eArc con cavo identico alla soundbar Bose 600 . In avvio non ho riscontrato nessun problema neanche in aggiornamenti firmware . Voglio pero precisare che non uso questi dispositivi x i giochi e non sono abbonato a nessun servizio streaming a pagamento per questo non posso dare nessuna valutazione se tutto funziona bene. Non possedendo un PC li uso sia x la navigazione web ricerche o altro x la musica tramite YouTube ma anche si X film e serie TV ma come o detto in precedenza non da servizi in abbonamento . Sul Minix tutto sembra funzionare compreso il browser chrome che sulla Shield da problemi anche con qualunque altro si installi al di fuori del suo play store. X quanto riguarda l'upscaling devo dire che sul Minix funziona molto bene sulla Shield invece si a una percezione di una eccessiva nitidezza che si nota l'artefatto. Il mio setting sul minix - Ai PQ attivo AI SR attivo AI Face attivo - AI PQ Level Low - AI SR Level Medium (3x). Auto Switch To Best Resolution - Disattivato.

Great media player. Fast, smooth play back from my video library and IPTV streaming like many Android TV boxes. BUT it is real Android not app limited Android TV so it will run almost all the Apps, Games, Browsers News, Launcher etc Apps from the Google Play store. Nice to be able to run games on my fast PC server but play them on my 70 in tv through this box . Setup was so easy by linking the apps in my Phone to this box through Google Play

The media player would randomly stop playing remux mkv blurays from plex. Not pause, just stop. After that the only option was to restart the media player. Maybe the Minix will work for you but for me it started after 3 weeks and only got worse. After that I returned it. And I know my plex wasn't the problem because the nvidia shield, phone and pc would play the files just fine.

I got MINIX U8K-Ultra and immediately started to love it. It is fast, it has many options for customizations. I was mostly interested in passthrough capabilities for DTS, Dolby Digital and it passed the tests. It has some bloatware installed that can be disabled but not uninstalled. The launcher is decent but not exceptional, I am though impressed by the device speed in Kodi and Jellyfin. I am waiting for Android 14 that seems to be not yet out. Gigabit LAN is very useful as all the ports. I am very pleased by the device.
