1/4-20 Plus Nut Tool

I have another version of this tool and this new one is the BOSS. I Love it, i use my makita to set the nuts and it works so easy and fast. I wish I bought this one a long time ago instead of struggle with my last one. Great item

Used this to fix a recurring problem with the door air cylinder on our LTV Unity MB. The pivot pin fot yhe air cu;inder keeps falling out letting the door to swing out against the coach. This pin and Rivet Nut were never installed into the door frame properly from the factory and is a known problem in the LTV community. Most people are putting up with it or ordering replacent air cylinders and pins over and over, but the problem is the rivet nut was just press fit into the hole. I chose this set because my hole has become oversixe and the wings formed during compression completely removed any excess play side to side and worked beautifully. Very easy instuctions to follow and I have posted this on the LTV Bulletin board as an simple and easy fix Well worth the money.

Mandrel threads stripped after only a few uses. Good thing I was testing before using in my real application. The bad thing about these drill-driver tools is it can be tricky to gauge when the rivnut is properly set without over-tightening, but even when applying what I thought was a light touch, it was still very inconsistent. Tried both low and high torque settings on my drill. I suppose if you have a good sense of that, this tool works well, but for me it was a bust.

This was a perfect solution to reattach hinges to a screen door where the sheet metal screws finally stripped out. The trick was to get the biggest rivnut that would fit on the edge of the door, which in my case was the M4 (4 mm). The original stripped out holes were drilled to accept the multigrip rivnut, which appeared to be a better solution than a standard one. The base of the tool didn't quite fit in the recess of the door edge so it wasn't flush against the rivnut, but that was easily remedied by inserting a few washers between them. I was concerned about breaking off the screw as was reported in other reviews. So, I sacrificed one rivnut to observe its collapse outside of the "blind hole", while counting the number of turns required to collapse it. It really doesn't take much torque, and after the first one or two you get a good feel for when it's fully tightened. Cap screws were used as they have a "built-in" washer and minimal height so as not to interfere with the door closure. Finally, the rivnut flange thickness was a concern at first, because the hinge plate would no longer lay flush onto the door edge , but it was negligible at about 1 mm so the door still fit and works flawlessly. The kit only had six rivnuts so I bought an extra pack, so this entire project only cost less that $30 vs a new Pella door for hundreds (assuming I could find one...).

Got about a dozen nuts installed before the front screw-on keeper ring split across in one location. It finally split into two pieces. Since the keeper ring keeps the 'guts' inside, I used electrical tape to hold it to the threads. Threaded insert bolt bent first time I tried small battery powered impact wrench to install nut. That made screwing insert bolt into a nut difficult. I was finally able to straighten it out. DON'T use impact driver to fully tighten Plus Nut. Get it snug with impact and finish it off by hand with Allen wrench. Bottom line is the two keeper rings are not heavy duty enough. But this tool will only cost you under $25 vs $70 or more for other Plus Nut or rivet nut tools. If you take the time to learn how to properly use it, it will last and does a good job. Only other disadvantage is that it only has the ability to install one size of Plus Nut as the nut installation thread is not interchangeable.

Fantastic. This tool worked great. It is small in size and doesn’t take up much room in the tool box, but it is solid steel and incredible sturdy. It will last a lifetime. It compresses the large anchor nuts easy with both a drill or by hand. Highly recommended.

Can't say enough about these , purchased a used fiberglass hood and 1 nutsert was missing. These installed solid into the hood no more mounting issue. Great value for the 1/4 x20 set and for my needs fit perfect and have a good solid mounting point.

The rivet nut worked great for a ladder rack install in my truck bed but the tool was done after one use. I greased everything up and followed all directions but the threads on the tool were shot. I had to use a bolt, washer and socket to install the rest of the rivet nuts and was actually much easier than using the tool.

Really well made. Super easy to use. Great quality.

Plus rivetnut are great when you need extra grip. Tool is well made and works great. These are a life saver when regular rivnuts won't work or if the hole is a little too big for regular rivnuts to lock in. Only wished the kit came with more rivnuts. Definately will buy again and in some different sizes.

Garbage. Broke on first use. Cheap white metal. Don't buy under any circumstances
