Nice sounding player with solid features
I purchased this player specifically because it does NOT have more modern features like touch screen and wifi and bluetooth. Every time I use my phone for stuff like this it seems like you touch it the wrong way and it just annoys me being so touch sensitive ugghhh... I just wanted a simple player with a good interface that is intuitive to load all my folders of albums. I have probably close to the max of 256gb of music on my computer, recorded vinyl records and ripped CD's and I wanted to get better sound than a phone. There are phones that have good sound but not for this price. I hook this up to an Aomais bluetooth speaker with a stereo cable in, and also bring it into the car the same way, through the AUX port. There is nothing wrong with a solid player, and it feels solidly made, that is like a walkman I use to have. The interface is intuitive and pretty simple, and I have nothing bad to say about it. Are there other players that cost more and have better sound? Sure, but the difference isn't much. The thing is, standards are up these days and what you can get at this price point is great. You want the highest quality, which is only marginally better? You'll pay way more for that. And besides that, most sound can be EQ'd so for clear reproduction of whatever it is you ripped into digital, this will be perfectly fine. Small enough for your pocket, even though it has some weight, and it won't just go do whatever it wants if you touch it the wrong way. No stupid android to deal with or bluetooth connectivity problems etc etc...Just fun listening. It comes with a 64gb card, and that holds a ton even with all my files being flac. If I lost this tomorrow I'd get another one right away, I'm not going to pay 500 for something that has features I don't need or want. Simple is good, and it also has a line level out for when I get my stereo receiver set up to input this into. The ONLY negative here for this, is that they haven't upgraded the micro USB to a USB C which is a newer standard so hopefully they'll upgrade that at some point and maybe a higher capacity transfer/charge cable but you can always pull the card out and use a faster reader and reinstall the card. Thanx Mechen!

Super Sound
*** Update: Still going very strong and sounding excellent. Have come to appreciate the wheel, very useful for changing volume while the player is in a pocket. The output is pushing headphones and earbuds very well. *** This player is a very pleasant surprise -- extremely high quality and sounds fantastic. No apps, no wifi, no Bluetooth - just your music (wav files in my case) on your sd card - love it. The build quality is "like a tank" and the buttons all have a nice feel and click to them. The spin wheel is ok, not sure it's needed, and I find using the buttons more intuitive. Fully charged out of the box, and even though I read a previous review stating this had Micro USB, the model I received is USB C, fantastic! Very easy to use menus and navigation. Boots up in seconds, and most importantly to me, the sound is clear and precise - the "Rock" eq really sounds super. 5 stars and highly recommended - thank you MECHEN, fantastic work!

First Impressions...Very Nice! And an UPDATE!
For under 100 bucks this thing is a steal and bluetooth is over rated. I just wanted a player that actually worked, and didnt cost a fortune. That didnt have a horrendous interface, and had a custom equalizer. Not to mention a 1500 Mah battery, and absolutely NO bloatware. Plus it comes with a 64GB micro SD card, offers settings like language, backlight timer, sleep timer, shuffle, repeat, playlists, etc. Everything that you'd need to have a reliable decent player. Being my first lossless player I can say that Im really impressed with the sound quality, but cant compare it to any other lossless player. I can say that the sound is better than any other mp3 player that Ive ever owned, even with crappy earbuds. It has weight to it and really feels like you've made a worthwhile purchase. Even though these are my first impressions, I would give this 6 stars. Because there's alot of junk being sold in the MP3 player world. So save yourself the hassle of purchasing too cheap or way over priced and give this a try. If your coming from Ipods and Sansa's, your in for a pleasant surprise. BTW, its not a C charge but my laptop notices it without a hitch. When adjusting the custom equalizer look to the button by the wheel (you'll thank me later). To me the wheel is almost a hindrence. It clicks as you turn it, but you have buttons that do the exact same thing easier. So if one option ever breaks, you'll have another option. All that you get for the price is worth it... BUY IT! UPDATE!!! I've owned this product for about 3 months now and feel very comfortable leaving an updated review. So comfortable that Im gonna buy another, right after I write this update. I dont get all these negative reviews. I've used this every workday since I purchase it. Listen to it 10 hours a day everyday. Heck, I dont even turn it off for breaks, I just pause it. And still have more than half a bar of battery life when I get home. Im sorry but thats a winner to me. I've also dropped it two times from my desk to the hard concrete floor, only to pick it up and start jamming again with absolutely no problems at all. The first fall it landed flat. The second fall was today and it dropped and tumbled and guess what? I started jamming again as if it never happened. Not a scratch on the unit. The first time I thought I just got lucky, but this time I thought it was a done deal but nope. And the songs ARE in alphabetical order. Whatever the title of song you put in, thats exactly what you'll find. I dont search by song, I search by title. This is the first UPDATE I've ever done. One reason is I didnt really know how. But Im extremely pleased with this product. And to see people bashing it so hard, kinda makes my spider senses tingle. Its almost as if people are trying to tarnish the competition, so you can purchase their over priced junk. When this is really all you need. All I can say is see for yourself. 6 stars!!! The only problem that I can report is that sometimes it'll cut a song short for no apparent reason. Its happened at least twice... Big deal.

Great Sounding Player With Caveats
Please Note that I purchased my MECHEN M30 in September 2023. There may have been some subtle changes to its firmware since then. PROS: *Feels solid. *Easy to operate with slight learning curve. *Beyond 20 hours of continuous use on a single charge. *Excellent sound quality with balanced tonality from bottom to top. CONS: *No gapless playback. *Will likely not play audio files in desired sequence. Out of the box, my unit would not play audio files in the correct sequence. Fortunately, a firmware update is available from the MECHEN website that corrects this. Its firmware updates are simple and easy to install. The first update includes the following: “Song sorting rules changed to follow music file title instead of ID3 information Fast forward and rewind, play and pause, volume +- are now all available in the lock screen except the button Menu and Return.” I’m waiting for a firmware update to add gapless playback. Until then, the player gets 3 out of 5 stars from me. *UPDATE 02/02/2025* I wrote a letter to MECHEN inquiring about my concerns with the M30, and received the following reply: “Hello. First of all, thank you for your support and trust. For the three points you mentioned to answer the question, may not make you satisfied. 1. You mentioned gapless playback, the player can not do this, all single-core players on the market are so. This kind of function involves the setting function of the music APP whether or not with this kind of option, generally speaking Android system player should be able to, I think it can, because it supports the download APP, go to download the APP that can be with seamless playback function can go to realize it. For now, this type of player is not supported. 2. Character truncation problem, the player is determined by the system, according to the pixel points and how many speed reduction to decide, to reach a certain threshold will be truncated or do not show the whole character, some characters are a little wider, but not enough to show the whole character, there will be a whole character does not show the situation. For example: the last one is the M character, but the principle can only be put in half, can not be divided into two halves of the M, then the M is directly not displayed, probably this is the meaning. The software has a certain que value. Not that the first line cut 20, the second line cut 19, did not do this judgment. How to make good use of the song names and sorting, I upload the user guide of the product for you in the attachment, in which you can find the method of how to sort the songs, so that it is easier to organize your songs and arrange the order. 3. Regarding the empty folder “System Volume Informati”, it is a folder that is automatically generated after connecting to the computer, you can't see it on the computer, but you can see it in the player, and you can't delete it on your own, it's a system-generated file, you can get an explanation of it by putting the name of the file on the web. You can get their explanation. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Best regards.” As for gapless playback, there is a workaround. Using audio editing software, combine the files to make one file. The only drawback to this is that songs within the file cannot be individually selected. But, if you typically listen to albums in their entirety, this should not be much of an issue.

A Most Outstanding Player!
With a battery that lasts all week on a single charge and an amplifier that delivers more than adequate power this Mighty Mechen Music Machine is an Absolute Fave! Small enough to carry easily and so easy to use that I loaded it with music and took it out for a run without even needing to consult the manual........ Then I gave it the Old Timex Watch Test. Not being able to put it down I took it with on a nite out when I went in to use the facilities it slipped from my hand, disconnected from the cable as I instinctively grasped at it and went directly into the bowl shattering it! (I won't be going back to that place for a while). I immediately reached down and snatched it up and wrapped it in towels tapping out the water that got inside but it was too late... the screen was strobing due to the intense shock that it had received and I had to take it home to let it dry over-nite. The next day I turned it on and HEY! Still not working..... So I turned the oven on 200, let it warm up, put the M-30 in a single-serve dish, turned the oven off and place it inside on a cookie sheet and left it for @ 4 hrs. When I removed it and it was cooled down it fired up and has been working as good as the day it was born!!! For my money this is a great little Music Machine at twice the price.

Not for people who like to do the whole moving around thing.
I needed something that was durable and would keep together because I have a pretty active job. This is not it, despite all outward appearances. The headphone jack became faulty. I even took precautions to avoid this by buying a nylon phone pouch to wear it on my belt rather than keeping it in my pocket to avoid any prying or leveraging of the jack inside the player. This seems like almost a universal problem with a lot of units of this design, the same thing happened to my Surfans F20 HiFi MP3 Player which is 40 USD more expensive than this model. But that at least has Bluetooth to fall back on, this is effectively a paperweight now since it offers no bluetooth connectivity. When it worked it performed very well. The analog buttons made it easy to jump back and forth between songs or dial in volume without having to pull it out, which is a necessity. It's still getting a single star review because fancy dials and buttons don't mean much if it's poorly assembled in the inside. Do not buy unless either you want to learn how to solder (I've heard recommended self fixes but haven't tried cracking it open), or you're a fan of regularly playing the returns game. Your mileage may vary if you're a more casual listener who lounges and listens to music, but if you're working any kind of manual labor job you will more than likely run into this same problem. Honestly unacceptable for a portable device in my opinion.

Great bare bones MP3 player
This unit has great sound. The real buttons feel good and solid. The case is very solid. This is an MP3 player and nothing but. It plays a variety of formats. the screen is not touchscreen. the display does NOT have any weird, ugly or clashing colors in the display and the numbers are easily read with white letters on a black background. This unit is refreshing in the ease of looking at. it has no earbuds, no bluetooth, no wifi, no streaming, no internal memory, It has two playback modes, player and folder view. The player option sorts the music on the tf card according to the tags on the files. it has a limit of four thousand files (only in the player view.) the unit sorts alphabetically. i have my music in a folder labeled 1 music and my audiobooks in 2 Books. this forces the unit to scan the 1 music folder first for the music. The unit misread many of the MP3 tags which are in the files, so the folder scan is hit or miss, especially with older files. The folder option does not have the 4,000 file limit and finding what you are looking for is as easy as you have the files organized (I let itunes automatically sort my library so i have no trouble finding anything.) The unit can not play anything with DRM on it, so it is unable to play Audible files. The unit doesn't handle large/long files well. it has no book mark function and the fast forward function takes a too long to speed up, which it does eventually do. it has no trouble playing large files and the unit will remember where it's at in the file you are playing even when turned off. it only remembers the location on the file being played (play something else, position is the forgotten.) I recommend using an MP3 splitter to make large file playback easier. With the unit's drawbacks, I'd give it a four star review but with its price, it has the best sound I've experienced in a sub 100 dollar unit.

Great Sound Quality
Mechen M30 was shipped by Amazon. Arrived on time and as described. Observations: First thing I looked at was the equalizer. It lacks sub 80hz. I messaged the seller about it in which the seller responded that there was no way to test 20hz. That's one of the quirks of the Mechen M30. I also noticed the scroll wheel is reversed. In the menu if you scroll to the right, the menu rotates left. When the player goes to sleep, all front facing buttons and scroll wheel is locked. You have to press the power button to wake it up to be able to use the front facing buttons and scroll wheel. It has some lag loading a song. It can't read wav file tags. Just song title and codec information on wave files. A tagger like Kid3 didn't help wav files. UI Performance: It runs okay. I seen other reviews about lags at song change. That is from the low quality 64GB microSD card supplied with it. I changed it to a SanDisk mircoSD then the song change lag stopped. It plays well now. Build Quality: It's thicker and heavier than a smartphone but vertically shorter. Buttons feel firm and responsive. Scroll wheel feels tight on it's axis. TFT display is reasonable bright at it default setting at full brightness. Turn down screen brightness to help extend battery time before next recharge. Solid player. Sound quality: I will just say that the player has a crisp and clear audio quality. I was able to hear the higher frequencies of a song plain as day like high hat cymbals in a drum kit. The balance between low frequency and high frequency is not right for those of us that like to hear some low bass. My headphones do a great job reproducing bass tones but the Mechen M30 can't give what the headphones want. It does have the right amount of power to drive closed ear full sized headphones. I am still satisfied that it does well at sound quality. This is my first Digital High-Res digital audio player. Because it is my first I have nothing else to compare it too. All I can say it's worth the buy. A step above smartphone audio.
