PETZL Actik Core Unisex Head Torch

Awesome torch, lights up our horse paddock with ease, brilliant throw of light highly recommended.

Used for professional night security guard work for foot patrols around empty buildings/offices and unlit expanses. Believe it or not, I bought this for the red light in order to last a permanent 'on' throughout an entire dark evening shift with the bonus of having the white light too. The various white modes are more of a flood than a beam and very impressive. The red is more a focused beam directly in front of you. Not sure how long the clickable angle will last, feels like it could wear within a few months use and may end up just pointing down after a while. It's good you can swap between AAA batteries or use the Core battery, however, you have to unclip the unit all the time to plug in the USB cable. Would like to have seen a USB plug on the outside of the unit for easier charging. It also lacks a battery drain indicator unlike cheaper models I've had. Head band had to be literally adjusted to it's limit to fit my head. Red beam is very nicely dim and perfect for stealth or close proximity navigation without ruining your natural night vision and to not dazzle others which in my work is ideal. Some head torches with red lights are way to bright and defeats the object but this Petzl red mode is exactly what I was looking for, just a faint glow, but enough to see just a few strides ahead and no more, it can also flash/pulse in red mode. No rubber seal, so not necessarily water resistance in heavy rain. Good overall, but I also carry a military grade £250 torch as my main tool that has 5200 lumens whereas this Petzl is rated at 450 lumens and used as a back-up when needed or quick emergency incidents. Easy to wear, didn't want a load of unnecessary straps or cables like with more expensive units so that I can easy take it off and put it in a pocket. Only time will tell how it lasts or when the battery starts to deteriorate. Lastly, I've seen numerous soldiers use these Petzl models too fixed to their helmets, so if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.
