Explode the Code 1: Essential Lessons for Phonics Mastery

I homeschool my 5 nearly 6 year old and we've been using Alpha phonics as our primary phonics curriculum but daughter has been giving me a lot of resistance to the written part of the Alpha-phonics programme so I had to go back to the drawing board and I found Explode the Code. Explode the Code is lighter on the written requirements. The child circle the correct letter, word or picture or they must trace for example. It's much friendlier to a writing resistant child e.g. anything more than 2 sentences being too much. She did the practice pages and was quite happy to do all the practice pages in one sitting. I think level 1 is a little easy for her, however, it's great to get her back in a positive mindset towards writing and phonics so best to build from the winning streak we've discovered. I think she'll breeze through book 1 to book 2 pretty quickly. Based on our early experience with Explode the Code this is a win. I recommend this workbook as beneficial addition to a Reception/KS1 curriculum.

My Little one loves these books

My children's school uses this book and they read so well! I got the previous books (A, B and C) for my preschooler and have been working through this one with him and he is also beginning to read. I'd say these are very efficient at teaching children phonics and children really love working through the books. Its a win win!

Good book for practice at home

I am a retired special ed teacher, I use these while I was teaching and now I used them when I tutor. The kids absolutely love them! They see it as a game and are engaged. My students asked me for copies to take home to do with their parents!

My kids loved Explode the Code workbooks. Highly recommend for their thorough content and for the humorous phonics exercises. It was my kids favorite when they were young.
