Basic Grammar in Use Student's Book with Answers

ESL students can get easily bored with the explanations found in most of the ESL grammar books available in the market; however, with Basic Grammar in Use and the other books in the series any ESL student who's really committed to learning English will never get bored. I have been studying English at different schools in Brazil, the UK and the US, and on my own as well, for more than 25 years, and I have gone through many different books. My first language is Brazilian-Portuguese and I used to find it very hard to master grammar aspects such as the Present Perfect ( and other Perfect aspects ). Then one day I found a copy of English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy at a public library in my hometown and for the very first time I understood the Present Perfect aspect. Later I became an ESL teacher myself and I found out more about other books by Raymond Murphy and I made it a point to adopt copies of Basic Grammar in Use to all of the beginning students I teach. Thanks a lot to Raymond Murphy and Cambridge for such a wonderful tool for students and teachers as well.

I've been teaching immigrants/refugees to speak English for decades. For many years the Betty Schrampfer Azar books have been my favorite grammar texts. They still are an impressive resource. But I recently discovered the Raymond Murphy texts. Unlike Azar, the lessons are neatly structured in short sequences that model a specific language feature, give examples, and follow with accessible, well-thought out exercises for practice. There are American and British English versions as well. "Essential English Grammar in Use" is the British equivalent to this title.

This is a must~If you want to speak English with confidence. For non English speaker is a very useful book to study. My favorite is to record my voice to check with right prounciation. The author lets non native English speaker speak with confidence. these are kind of easy to study but there are many expressions we use everyday at work or at home. but I have a questions to ask. How can I record my voice and check? I can only see there is recorder on the bottom of program on cd. I was trying to do with I phone earbuds. but it's not working. probably I don't know how to do. I really like that idea we can record to check my realy sound. PLEASE HELP ME!!! HOW CAN I RECORD AND CHECK MY VOICE ON CD?????

My wife came here from Colombia and could not speak or write English very well. This book did give her a basic use of the language.

As an ESL/EFL teacher, I have found the entire Grammar In Use series to be extraordinarily helpful. If a student is having trouble with a specific grammatical issue, I often steer them toward specific pages in these books. The grammar is well presented without being so thorough as to bog a student down with too much information. The structure of the book is excellent: grammar information on one page, grammar exercises using that information on the very next page, repeat. For this price, you can't really go wrong.

I am not the best speaker because I don't have enough practise in the daily life. I'm (52 years old) forgetting the rules because of not using it. For me it is the best English grammar book I ever had. It is totally thoughtful. You can test yourself in the back of this book and it depends from the results which lessons are recommended. Really great for self- learners.
