Quality and value
Minimalistic ingredients and creamy taste. A great source of slow digesting protein that has minimal GI impact.

Poor taste.
Expensive. Tastes chemically. It’s sitting in the cabinet taking up space.

Workout protein supplement
Great supplement for gaining muscle. If you can't afford this, cottage cheese is another good source of casein.

good results, difficult mixing and drinking
The results I had researched happen when I drink this before bedtime. I sleep much deeper, awaken less frequently. It seems my body is more at peace during the night. My taste buds are not as sharp, it it rather bland. I added 1 tspn of carob and 2 drops of Stevia, this really improved the taste!! I know this also helps the body recognize it as a healthy addition. For me, it has mixing challenges, I use a milk frother. This seems to mix it well, yet makes it almost too thick and frothy to drink. Today, I mixed it up, put it in the fridge keep it cold. Hoping by bedtime it is a better texture.

Doesn’t mix, no flavor, causes bloating
I’ve been working out and taking different protein supplements consistently for about 15 years. I decided to try this brand as a cleaner alternative to the casein I had been taking previously, and there were a lot of reviews on this product saying it tasted great and mixed well enough. I’m pretty sure those are either bots or people who work for this company that wrote them because this has to be the worst tasting protein I have ever had. Mix-ability was horrible. No matter how long I shook it up in my shaker bottles it would always end up chalky feeling. I usually take casein before bed, and the previous brand I was using was great because it would help me fall asleep faster. This does the opposite. After I’ve choked down the bottle of it, I lay in bed bloated for about 30 minutes or so before it finally starts to die down so I can sleep. I bought the chocolate flavor, which is a joke because it doesn’t taste anything like chocolate. Eventually I started mixing my Whey protein with this to help make it drinkable. Honestly pretty annoyed that it only comes in a 5lb container. I would have liked to tried a 1lb bag first to see if it was worth the ~$100 I paid for this. I guess I’ll be forcing this down for the next month and a half or so. I get what the company is trying to do by keeping the ingredient count low, and I do appreciate that, but I would suggest a warning that this is going to be VERY different than any thing you’ve probably used in the past. Don’t let the bot reviews fool you!

Great Protein Powder
Amazing protein powder. It has great texture and the taste is exactly as described, plain, so I am able to add protein to any food without it altering the taste. It’s great quality too. 10/10

Good protein but not good consistency
I bought this item with the idea of mixing it with Amazing Grass Superfood products to add some flavor and extra nutrition. I was also looking to get away from the ON flavors and their sweeteners, though ON is not bad at all and uses few ingredients. Naked Casein costs something like 30% more per serving, but I decided to try it anyway. Others have likened it to powdered skim milk. I can agree with that. There is just a mild powdery taste. The downside is that the servings are two scoops of powder. If you're like me and you like to use two servings to get around 45-50g of protein in a shake, that is 4 scoops of powder. I'm not trying to say they rip you off or anything, as the serving count is properly labeled, but rather that this huge amount of powder makes for a very thick, powdery shake that is unpleasant to drink. To compound this issue, the powder is super fine and makes the water very frothy and airy. I use a large blender bottle with like 25 oz of water. I think I would need like 30+ oz. of water or more to make this palatable enough to be OK with me. That can be a bit much, as people usually take their casein shakes before bed and don't wanna have to down a huge shake right before sleeping. Aside from that, I can't comment on the gains I've gotten from this product, as I'm not a cyborg with measurable biomass particles attributable to a specific source, but I think it's fine. I haven't noticed a change since I moved over from ON casein. The amino acid profile is very similar to ON, which I think is a good brand. I think I will go back to ON when this tub is done. It's a good idea, the whole "naked" thing, but it's just too much powder for me. I love that there are companies that are pioneering (or throwback-ing) to all natural foods, but it's not quite enough yet to win me over for good. If they can work on the consistency and amount of the powder, it would be awesome... no to mention the added cost compared to their biggest competitor. At this time though, I think the ON shakes are just so much smoother and their flavors are not all that bad.

We've used this in baking and in smoothies. I appreciate that it doesn't have flavourings or sweeteners added.

Based on the reviews, I anticipated a difficult to handle powder needing a high speed or a stick blender, or at the very least, a shaker bottle. I put 15grams of powder into a thin tall beaker, poured about a tablespoon or so of milk over it and stirred with a chopstick to see how long it would take to incorporate. I was surprised that it very quickly changed into a paste, or pudding-like consistency, and the lumps quickly smoothed away (not even half a minute). A tiny bit chalky in taste, but not unpleasant, and with a slight powdered milk flavor. It made a nice pudding with a bit of sweetener, dried coconut flakes for texture, and a few almonds to give it some crunch. From the paste, it incorporates any liquid easily, just by stirring with a spoon. Adding milk to it makes it taste like milk, without thickening it.

This is my first time taking any protein powder, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I really appreciate that it doesn't have any extras in it and it is just the protein. I haven't really noticed it curbing my hunger for that long. Because of how thick the powder is I have found the best thing to do when I make a smoothie is to blend it with just the milk first, then add the other ingredients, and blend it again as normal, which has made it a better texture. Maybe I'm just not used to protein powder yet and it is a regular texture.

I mix a scoop of this unflavoured casein with a half scoop of my normal chocolate whey protein and 350ml of water in a shaker bottle and shake for about 20 seconds. There are no chunks or weird bits. It's a little bit chalky, but it's not bad and it cuts the artificial sweetness of the whey protein. I'm not looking for something that tastes amazing; just something that can go down the hatch and help me meet my protein target for the day. I'll be trying the Naked Whey next.
