I use this every day for work. The texture of the screen makes writing on it very satisfying. I’m a big fan of all the different page templates; I’m able to take notes, plan out my day/week/month, and make checklists with no problem. I haven’t used the export functionality too much but when I do it translates my writing into text with near-perfect accuracy. I do wish it was easier to move pages around within or between notebooks, but it doesn’t take away from my everyday use. Battery life is fantastic—I can easily go weeks between charges. I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking for a budget-friendly e-notebook!

I was looking for a device that could help me read more, sketch out ideas, and replace my long-standing habit of taking copious notes on paper—notes I almost never revisit. I wanted something that could bring all of this together in a more intentional way. I seriously considered the iPad, especially with apps like Procreate and various note-taking tools. A couple of friends, however, strongly recommended the Kindle Scribe. I happened to be in the U.S. over Thanksgiving when this version was discounted by about 30%, and on an impulse, I decided to give it a try. I’m very glad I did. The Scribe itself is superb. The writing experience feels natural and satisfying, and the plant-based cover Amazon offers is excellent—simple, sturdy, and thoughtfully designed. Writing on the Scribe feels close enough to paper that it immediately felt familiar. I’ve only had it for about a month, but in that time I’ve been reading a lot more than usual. I enjoy underlining and annotating as I read, and I can easily see this becoming a replacement for physical books for me. The note-taking experience has been equally strong—I’ve already used it extensively in a couple of workshops, and it’s been genuinely pleasant and fulfilling. There are several features I haven’t explored yet, including the cloud and AI capabilities around notes, and I haven’t fully leaned into sketching and drawing just yet. Even so, based on my experience so far, this has been a fantastic purchase. If you’re someone who reads a lot, takes handwritten notes, or wants a focused, distraction-free alternative to paper or tablets, I’d strongly recommend the Kindle Scribe.

The Amazon Kindle Scribe (64GB) is a fantastic all-in-one device for reading, note-taking, and document management. The large screen is easy on the eyes and perfect for books, PDFs, and writing. Writing feels smooth and natural, storage is more than enough at 64GB, and the battery life is excellent. It’s especially useful for organizing notes and marking up documents without distractions. Overall, this is a powerful, focused device for anyone who reads and takes notes regularly. Highly recommend.

Update: 2.11.25 I was reviewing other professional opinions of the new Kindle Scribe and just happened to see that there was another update in Jan of this year. The update was to enhance the note taking feature, within a book, pdf, etc. My Scribe still had the 5.17.2 version and no matter how many times I tried to update, reboot - nothing. I had to go through the process of manually transferring the update to the hard drive of my Scribe? If you are not the least bit tech savvy, you will not be able to get this update of 5.17.3 - BIG mistake Amazon! I was able to paste the update into the Scribe's hard drive. This update was a HUGE in terms of note-taking features. It allows you to tap on the new icon within a book page and open up an entire area within the page to make notes as large as the page itself. Why, why did this not automatically update??? At this price point, this feature should just take place; not to mention that I really miss having a built-in speaker for all of my audio books - side note, why should I have to use a Bluetooth device or, worse, another device to listen to my audio books. On the fence with my new Scribe - I have been a part of the Amazon eco-system for years. That said, I traded up my Kindle White for the Scribe and have been using it for nearly 2 months. The jade color is beautiful, the matching pen is equally as wonderful. Good Points: 1 - Screen size is just the right real estate for me. I love to read on it and adjust the front lighting to my preference. 2 - As with all Kindle devices, you are integrated into their world; not that you could not side load apps however and unlike the fire tablets, there really is no need if, you have another device. I also own the Fire HD 10, newer version which is another decent tablet, but I digress - as an e-ink device - keep it distraction free. 3 - 300 PPI, it is one of the best on the market. You could compare it with the Boox Go 10.3 which, does not have front lighting and, it does not have as has crisp a look when reading. 300 PPI is not standard on other devices which, makes for a big difference when compared to a 227 PPI screen. 4 - Screen refresh is surprisingly fast and at times, intuitive without you having to gesture it to do so. 5 - Writing on the tablet, it is a smooth feel, no latency on my device from what I have experienced thus far. The pen to tablet is nearly perfect if not for the extra layer in order to have front lighting. Each choice of pen and thickness is quite remarkable for being a simple note-taking option. You can make notes within certain Amazon books, not all but, when you do, the text will automatically adjust the page so that you can continue reading. The various note taking options are within the learning curve of using the device. 6 - Drawing, I have doodled on the Scribe and without much complaint. 7 - Battery life is fantastic!! Personal - Not so great points: 1 - Having the front light has been a part of my e-ink and color tablets but, there is something to be said about that. Reading in bed with the light is a luxury since you do not have to fumble with overhead or clip-ons but, I will say that reading in the dark, as we get older, with the front lights isn't always the best option when no matter your adjustments, you can feel that "light" ghosting when you decide to shut your eyes for actual sleep time. the size of the Scribe, for some, is not comfortable for reading in bed but, with the original cover you get with the Scribe, it is actually fairly comfortable. I do plan on getting another device, no front light, and seeing how that matches up - using an external light, as another option. 2 - Writing and drawing - While I have been taking notes, journaling and doodling, I find that I am experiencing writers' fatigue in my fingers. the pen, while premium doesn't feel as comfortable for extensive writing options. Also, I sometimes tap on the 2 buttons that you can use for different functions, it is a bit annoying. You are able to save each notebook into its own folder and, I have saved them as PDF and emailed my work to myself - easy enough. I just cannot recommend this for more than basic writing or drawing endeavors. 3 - Pen - while this is premium and you have extra nibs, you can easily start wearing down the nibs and after a time, it costs more to but more. Ceramic pens should be an option, and you can buy or use other pens, but the concern would be, can it ruin the screen? If that happens well, there can go the screen - resale value will go down as would a trade in option. 4 - Paper-like feel. Hmmm not really. I do not find that my writing experience has lent itself to this. There are other e-ink devices that can offer you this if, writing and drawing are a part of your everyday hobbies. Again, writing fatigue is what I experience. 5 - Battery and motherboard are not upgradeable - to some, you may never think about this but, I do. If Amazon put itself in this market, it would be more competitive and making a stamp on green effect of our planet. Every time you think about trading in a Fire or Reader, you can get some dollars off, as I did with the Fire HD 10 but, you still have to pay the difference and let's face it - the fire tablets aren't the fastest operating systems to date. making devices upgradable warrants for not having to create another new tablet - Amazon, are you reading this? 6 - Covers - making a horizontal cover as opposed to a vertical one isn't such a bad idea though the magnetic pen only attaches in a vertical way but, that's what pen loops are for. 7 - Bring back speakers! Yes, you can listen on wireless - blue-tooth devices BUT there are times I don't want to pop buds into my ears if, I am in the comfort of my own home. YES, I can listen to my audible books on my Fire or Samsung A9+ but WHY? I want an all-in -one e-ink reader that offers me the choice. If not speakers than bring back the option to pop in wired headphones as a choice and I don't want to hear that if they do this, the tablet cannot remain as thin as it is, yes it can. Verdict - Do I think, even with the downside of the reader, that it is worth it? Yes, but not at the price point I paid. Will I keep it? For now, as I continue to research other options. Does this mean that you cannot get a mimicked experience reading Amazon books on other e-ink tablets, NO, you can but finding one I think that has a close match eco-system hasn't yet crossed my table. Yes, you can look into and use the RM2, Boox Go etc. but there are some drawbacks to both in terms of hardware and software as well customer service latency. Do your homework as you go through the pros/cons of each manufacturer. As with Amazon, none are perfect. I have not found that perfect marriage for any e-ink tablet for both reading and writing unless you want to go with color but there again, you are back to using "back-light" on those devices and, they are not distraction free. I submit to the fact that I may have to have several devices to suit my needs. In the end, it really is a personal choice and preference. the Scribe is a wonderful contender but not the only one on the market. Update 4.12.25: I have had to manually update, again! Why is this? I don't understand why Amazon doesn't do this automatically. For the cost of this item, I should not have to do this myself. Is it hard to do NO but why? I like my Kindle, I do but, I have been testing other brands - none of which I would keep until I receive a new one from Bigme and a newer one from Boox. Everyone talks about security issues with Boox, let's face it, everything that comes from other countries are going to be a little bit of a red flag then again, look at our country right now - Musk - what about this clown anyway - I may end of selling my Kindle IF I find something that can offer more - for now - I will enjoy the purchase but Amazon needs to step up and update their units.

I got this primarily because of the ability to load pdf's to read and notate. Works great and has met. most all my expectations. A few glitches but nothing that can't be worked around so far. Transfering books from my smaller Kindle was easy. The best thing though, has been the interaction of notetaking, highlighting and ease of use.
