Pachmayr Taurus 85 & Small Frame Wood Revolver Grips

I ordered these grips for a Taurus 3" Model 856. The factory rubber grips are too short, skinny, and angled down, which creates a very short reach for the trigger finger. This forces you to wrap too much of your trigger finger around the trigger. The result is you struggle to complete the last 1/4" of DA trigger pull. The laminated grips are more hand filling and add a 1/4" of padding to the rear. This puts your hand in a more comfortable position for DA pull, increasing the reach just enough to allow for proper placement of the finger on the trigger and better trigger control . The grips also allow for a slight pinky hold while still remaining compact. They are attractive and fit the frame well. The ultra smooth finish of the grip panels is best suited to those with sensitive hands. For those who prefer a more secure grip, Pachmayr offers the same style with checkering.

After reading others reviews I was a little hesitant to purchase these grips because of poor fit and installation. Well I must tell that my experience was completely outstanding! These grips fit my Taurus 605 like they were custom made. The fit tight with no looseness and once the screw was tightened the seam disappeared. The rosewood finish is rich looking and the checkering is exact. Installation took 10 minutes and the supplied roll pin fit perfectly. I am very satisfied with my purchase. My only recommendation would be for Pachmyer to supply a better quality screw. The one supplied has a very shallow slot that’s hard to tighten without slipping.

The grips are beautiful plus they give you a full hand grip. The installation is easy. Read reviews that said the supplied pin was too large. On my Taurus 856 Defender 3" barrel the knurled part (center) of the Pachmayr pin supplied was .002" larger than the factory roll pin for the standard pined grip. Since the ends were undercut to fit into the grip, I started the pin with a light tap then finished the install by pressing in with my vise. Very simple install took less then 10 minutes. Grip finish is flawless, and the seams are hardly noticeable. If you have larger hands and longer fingers, I highly recommend these grips they also move your hand back about 1/4" giving you a better trigger feel.

I bought five (5). Of them, four (4) were in different states of wrong - bood bumps, burns, scratches, unevenness. QC is lacking. Made in China. The 5th one though - brilliant, excellent, superb. I have 10 guns that are stock and I'm looking to replace the grips. Keeping the 5th. Returning the rest. Moving to a different grip - the quality control is just not there - which is to be expected from a Chinese fast manufacturer. Which also makes me think - is it really rosewood? And what type of laquer was used? Is it safe on your hands when they sweat? Should I wear gloves? Overall, I'm happy with the purchase, because the 5th one is right on the money. I used Mother's to shine the emblem, and now it's glimmering like gold coins on each side. The fit is excellent on 856, and fits my hands very well. The style is a bit 1970s/80s, but doesn't bother me too much. I'll try G10 next for something more modern. Because they fit me so well, the recoil is well mitigated, as the center point of the grip is high and behind the barrel almost. It feels like holding a small baseball, which is nice. With all that said, I don't think I'd buy it again though - the quality is just not there...

I bought a Taurus 605 a few months ago and the hauge grips that come on it feel small in my hand. These were such an amazing upgrade! These grips feel so much bigger. It makes my finger line up on the trigger better. These are the grips that should come on the 605.

These are actually really nice little grips, they are more comfortable and fill my hand a little more than the stock rubber grips and there's a little more real estate for my pinky but I'd still like a little more room for my pinky. They are beautifully finished and smooth! except where they are checkered obviously and they feel great on my 856 but I would like them to be a little shorter front to back but that's a personal preference. Now these girls are thick! Way thicker than the rubber grips that it came with so if you're going to conceal carry you might want to leave the rubber grips on cause these will print a bit more. Overall so far they seem really nice but I need to take them to the range and see how they hold up but I'm not worried because Pachmayr has been in the game a while so there shouldn't be any issues. I might try to gently sand and shape them to fit my hand a little better, although I'd hate to mess up the beautiful fit and finish.. maybe I'll get a second set just Incase.
