Gates 33963 Heavy-Duty Engine Coolant Thermostat

I was putting a new radiator and decided I would swap out the thermostat and housing while I was at it. It's the same one the parts houses sell for twice as much if not more. Fit the housing perfectly.

This works great for my suburban and was so easy to install. It has maintained the proper temperature and fit exactly as it should. I replaced this when I replaced my radiator, so far so good with no problems. I would recommend it.

I would use this any day to replace an original equipment thermostat without hesitation. Unit installs very easily and came with gasket needed to finish project. However, the a c delco thermostat did not come with the gasket. That is why about the gates. Works great no problems.

The unit i received is different from the pictures. It is still branded gates so i dont know if its authentic or not. I was hesitant to put it in but it did open at the correct temperature pretesting on a bench, as well as on the vehicle. The rubber gasket seemed a tiny bit loose/oversized and wouldnt fit in the thermostat housing until i pressed it in with my fingernails. The old gasket had a perfect fit. Giving it 4 stars for now.

When I changed the water pump on my Tahoe I changed the thermostat at the same time. No complaints.

If you buy one of these test it in a pot of water on the stove first. I didn’t and my motor was running hot and there was an audible clicking noise coming from the thermostat area. I had a 160 thermostat laying around from an old project and I decided to swap it in. The car will actually cycle the fans now and the clicking noise is gone. I put this thermostat in a pot on the stove and it doesn’t open until 205 degrees!
