I make my own multigrain bread and sesame seeds are one of the key ingredients. These seeds are crisp and tasty. Without any preservatives, they do not hinder my bread from raising. This is definitely the way to buy sesame seeds for use beyond sprinkling some over the top of a bread loaf.

I make my own hummus at home, so I use a lot of sesame seeds, which are turned into tahini in the food processor along with the cooked garbanzos. If you go to your supermarket to buy sesame seeds, you probably won't find them in anything larger than a small spice jar/can size. I have a 2.12 oz. can of them on my spice shelf, and it currently sells for $3.49 at Kroger. At that price, it would be $131.70 for a 5# bag! This "We Got Nuts" 5# bag cost me just 30 cents/ounce. The supermarket can costs 5.5 times as much per ounce. So clearly if you're going to use a lot of sesame seeds, this is the way to go. But make sure you'll use this much. They're obviously a food, and they don't have any preservatives. My bag suggests I use them within 11 months. I'm doubting I'll use half that much in 11 months, so I'm going to vacuum-seal and freeze most of them. According to the Bob's Red Mill site, that is an excellent way to significantly extend their shelf life. I bagged many of them in the exact quantity I need for a double-batch of hummus, the way I usually make it.

I like the quality and the taste, but it's a little pricey.
