The boot lever locks up straight during insertion. With the sprial fully inserted into the cork, the first step extracts about 7/8" of the cork. Press the boot lever in and the second lever pulls the rest of the cork straight out. The secret is in the "crescent" in the handle that keeps the spring-loaded floating axis in a vertical position. 3 bc it’s the only travel safe bottle opener I’ve found with different colors. Don’t love the quality though, handle is plastic and you can see all the seams

A decent, inexpensive waiter style corkscrew. It works well, the integrated foil cutter is amazing, just one star less than a Pulltaps since the Pulltaps has a certain weight to it that hints at durability and a long life. This is the one to take if there is a chance of it disappearing (picnics, parties, friends, desk at work, etc.)
