The book - The cover of the book is as beautiful as the story inside. Font size and page quality are fabulous. The story - This is one of those fantastic books which can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. The dark side of WWII is toned down for children. It perfectly showcases the magnanimity of certain kind hearted and brave human beings who make the world a better place to live in. The note from the author in the final pages of the book moistens the eye more than the fiction could do. There are elements of reality around which this brilliant story was spun. It is such an unputdownable book that the reader can easily complete it in one sitting.

This is a YA book but I decided to buy it for myself when I was looking for a gift for my friend's daughter. The main reason is that I have lived in Copenhagen for a while and this book is set in Copenhagen. The story tells the atrocities (toned down, of course) that happened during the Nazi regime. The story is simple yet powerful for the children to understand the cruelities of war without actually going into the gruesome details. It shows what it means to be a friend, to stay brave and to hope for the best. Parents...please buy this for your tweens.

Best book for first time reader of English books.vocabulary and writing of story is understandable for every age group. Story of little Annemarie and her friend Ellen's life. This story take place in Denmark at the time of world war and Germany invasion. Although this book for child group, this is very enjoyable, fantastic for reading for all age group

Lois lowry has written the book on an awesome subject. I liked the way two friends stayed together for protecting the Jews.

I have often wondered what courage really is? What does it mean to be brave? Is it what is shown in the movies, with macho characters and bursting egos? Well, this book taught me differently. It is a book that one must read often at different points of time in life, for each time there will be a new lesson waiting...

This story is about a girl, Annemarie and her best friend. This story will truly make you cry. Like, one of the best stories ever. I loved this book, language is pretty easy too. So highly recommended for all the stories lover.

On reading the synopsis I wondered how the author would be able to tone down the depth of suffering and atrocities that were a part of the II World War. Could it really be suitable for young readers? Before giving it to my daughter I decided to read it myself. I just could not put the book down. The writing is simple and the narrative engrossing. Lois Lowry drew me in to the world for little Annemarie. The book is true to the hatred filled environment of those times and yet speaks of hope and a better tomorrow. The note from the autor brought tears to my eyes with its beautiful message for a better world. I knew then that I had to get my young ones to read it. Excellent!

No complain about amazon but the book didn't touch my expectation maybe because I'm too much into historic fiction and this book had so little details and story.
