Out of the box no adjustments made, performs like a champ.
After using an index release for years I finally switch to a thumb release. Since I was not sure if I would like the thump release I thought I would go middle of the road expense wise. What I notice right off the bat was that the thumb release was smooth and anchoring for my shot was a bit better. My groupings were tighter and my release more consistent. This was a great thumb release for the price and I will see how I perform over the next few weeks.

For all those experiencing misfires with this release aid....
I read all the reviews prior to purchasing this release aid. Many of the reviews lead you to believe that the quality control may be lacking, causing the release aid to misfire. Welp, when I received mine, I read all the instructions - set the tension properly (instructions were included) for a 70-pound draw weight on my compound bow. The release aid functioned perfectly...for the first 20 or 25 arrows. And then I had my first misfire - the release aid let the arrow fly with the bow half-drawn. At first, I thought maybe that I accidentally hit the trigger during the draw. So I tried again, and another misfire. Each successive arrow after that misfired more and more quickly. So I took the release aid apart, to try to diagnose the problem. I didn't find anything, so I reassembled the release aid. It functioned flawlessly again for the first 20 to 25 arrows, and then the same thing started to happen again. For those of you who are experience misfires...here is what is happening. Per the instructions, to set the tension, you pull the trigger to the rear and expose the screw in the back. Then turn clockwise or counter-clockwise until you reach your desired max tension. Tighten the screw back up, and you're in business. What the instructions do NOT tell you is that each time you attach the swivel head to your D-loop, the 360-degree rotating head turns. Each successive time your clip on to your D-loop, the swivel head turns again. Shoot enough times, and the swivel head has turned so many times that the jaws WILL loosen up. And then you'll have a misfire. Once you realize that this is what is happening, it becomes second nature to just check it / turn the head with your fingers after each shot. You really don't need to do it after every shot, but it'll become a force of habit to check. So if you're currently experiencing misfires with this release aid - pick up your release aid, do not depress the trigger or anything else, use your fingers to turn the swivel head clockwise until it stops. No need to loosen any screws or anything else. If you do that before you shoot, it will work flawlessly, reliably, and you'll never have another misfire. If yours seems to be noisy, a little WD-40 will fix that right up. I did not receive anything from the manufacturer for this review. Tru-Fire should really put this in their instructions - it would help out their reviews immeasurably. Hope this helps someone. Be safe out there.

Functionally Flawless, but modification is necessary
Release works perfect. Had it now for a year. Shot maybe 1500+ times. No issues with missfires or issues. I am new archer. The two things I had to do though were add a lanyard. No worries there. Just don't want to drop it from a tree. The other was small wraps of grip tape because after 50-100 shots at the range my hand got sweaty and nearly lost control many times. So add a little grip tape, no issues. Or attach it to a strong wrist trap for long shooting sessions maybe. But would def recommend.

Great bow release
I love this thing. I bought it because I got sick of my wrist release, which: gets caught on everything, makes noise when banging against things, varies in length each time I put it on, inhibits wearing gloves, interferes with my jacket, makes it hard to reach into my pockets or backpack etc. I LIKE this release because it fits my hand nicely, the tip swivels 360 degrees. The knurled trigger has positive grip and is out of the way until you need it. This release is a "jaw" type. There are also "hook" types. The jaw is nice because it's spring loaded and is normally closed. This allows you to leave it hooked on your bow if you like. Never used a hook type. I "read" that they're more accurate. The only thing I don't like about it is, it gets COLD. Can't leave it attached to the bowstring when it's cold out. That's because it's aluminum. I would't opt for plastic though. I'm old school and like my metal. I just keep it in my pocket.

Constantly Misfires
I'll start with the bad, because this is the most important part: I shoot a 70 lbs bow, and this release constantly releases the string as I'm drawing back and the arrow goes flying off target. I will never hunt with this because I do not want to spook a deer while I'm drawing and have to nock a second arrow. I am done shooting this at the range because it is frustrating losing arrows when my thumb is nowhere near the trigger. The good: For what it's worth, when the release worked properly it was very accurate and easy to get used to. But after experiencing my issues it appears many other people have the same problem (even when shooting as small as a 30 lbs bow) so I would not recommend this release.

So far so good
Shot with this release for the first time today. Put about 30-40 arrows down range with it. Took a few different adjustments to get it to where I’m getting a surprise shot with every release. My groupings are already way tighter. I also like how it grips in my hand, allows for a good pull when drawing. This is my first thumb release and I’ve enjoyed it alot so far. For people complaining about misfires, they probably just don’t know what they’re doing. It’s pretty self explanatory just make sure you tighten the set screws nice and good. Read the instructions and make very little adjustments at a time. Initial set up can be a little tricky but once you get it dialed in close enough it’s easy to get it where you want it.

Best value, great quality
Sampled and purchased numerous hand held releases (switching from wrist strap style). This was the most comfortable, smoothest, quietest, and sensible to use option out of the dozen I tried. Even the $300+ options at the local shop were not as good all-around as this. Totally depends on the user, and there are some really high end models that can be tweaked and customized to the gnat's posterior, I know, but this one can't be beat for me.

nice crisp release and easy to to hold when drawing bow. 4 finger grip makes a lot of difference in ease of use for my elderly father.

Great product, works amazing!

This is a extremely poor product. I shot approximately 150 arrows over two weekends before it started misfiring. The pincers don’t hold the string and so it fires when your not ready. I tried adjusting it but it was already at its tightest so nothing I can do with it except throw it in the garbage. If there was a zero rating that’s what this product would get. It shouldn’t be sold for more than $10.
