Review: A book I will re-read, and re-read and re-read again! - Terry Pratchett is a firm favourite author of mine. I love the discworld and cannot wait to continue journeying through the series. Neil Gaiman is another firm favourite. He is a literary superstar! (American Gods, Anansi Boys, and Neverwhere are all due rereads too!) Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman together? A match made in Heaven (Or perhaps not, depending on how deeply you read into Good Omens). I first read Good Omens back in 2017, whilst on a binge read of Neil Gaiman’s books. I adored it! Fast forward to this month, when I reread it, and enjoyed it just as much – If not more! In the beginning there was Aziraphale (an angel; originally a guardian of the gates of Eden) and Crowley (a demon; originally the serpent who tempted Eve). Having been enemies for thousands of years, they were “almost friends” long before the apocalypse began. Although the book is a comedy about the birth of the son of Satan, and the coming of the End Times, it is also a love story of epic proportions. Firstly, that of Aziraphale and Crowley’s asexual love for one another (Or perhaps sexual, who am I to decide?). Secondly, that of Adam and the “Them,” and their love for one another as friends. Finally, the attraction of Witchfinder Private Newton Pulsifer to the occultist, Anathema Device. Interestingly, Anathema Device is one of several characters in Good Omens named after the original Pendle witches, as well as Agnes Nutter, a prophet burned at the stake. The Pendle Witches are a never ending source of curiosity for me. Good Omens also parodies Matthew Hopkins’ title of “Witchfinder General.” Matthew Hopkins (Approx. 1620-1647) was indeed a witchfinder by trade, and though he claimed to hold the office of Witchfinder General, that title was never bestowed by Parliament. Finally, I found the modern versions of the Four Horsemen (although War is a woman) of the Apocalypse to be artfully depicted. War spreads conflict as a war correspondent; Famine promotes starvation and deprivation as an entrepreneur and dietician; Pollution ensures mass environmental disaster through a wide variety of jobs (Having worked at Chernobyl just before the plant went into meltdown), and; Death – being the leader of the four – reaps the souls of the dead, in the style of the traditional grim reaper. Here's to many more rereads to come over the years! Review: Absolutely gorgeous. - I ordered this on a whim after I found out it existed. The first copy I was sent was in awful condition; it looked like it had been sat on a shelf in a charity shop for a few years and then shoved carelessly into a box to be shipped. I requested a replacement with desertcart, and the second copy I received arrived in good time and was in absolutely perfect condition! The illustrations are gorgeous, and the story is just brilliant. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is considering getting it.

Simply amazing
I love this book. I have first release, but I bought this one for the illustrations. Story in itself is great, and I recommend it to anyone that likes Neil Gaiman’s and Terry Pratchett’s writing. Book is a hardback, good size, the font isn’t too small either, so it’s pleasant to read. The illustrations are great and I recommend getting this version to anyone that enjoys Good Omens

A beautiful edition of a favourite book.
The book is a beautifully illustrated edition of GOOD OMENS the (sadly) only collaboration between (the late) TERRY PRATCHETT and (not late at all) NEIL GAIMAN. Illustrated throughout by Paul Kidby the official Discworld artist and featuring colour and black and white illustrations this is a must have for fans of both writers. The book is contained in an illustrated slipcase and ties in very well with the soon to be released television production in that the angel and demon featured bear uncanny resemblances to their television counterparts. If you buy it you will love it a really nice edition of this book that will look good on any bookcase and even better will be a pleasure to read.

5 stars for the story, nice illustrations, but book shows damage
Like most buyers this is not my first copy: I've read and re-read Good Omens since its first publication and I have an old paperback (signed by Terry Pratchett and so hallowed and treasured and not dropped in the bath). I was interested in getting one with the revised text and am having fun trying to spot the changes. (John Device is now Agnes Nutter's son-in-law rather than son, for example). The number of editions described here is confusing; the picture shows the 'definitive' Good Omens, what arrived was the 'illustrated' one, which I think may be slightly different. It is an ordinary hardback, no slipcase. The illustrations are lovely, though I'm not sure about the decision to draw Aziraphale and Crowley from the TV series but everyone else as straight from the book; I'd prefer one or the other. But this is a minor point and I love the Mona Lisa cartoon! Well I'm glad I didn't pay full RRP for it as the cover is a bit bashed and looks as if it has had something sticky dropped on it, and one of the illustrations has a nasty 'pucker' right across it. Aziraphale would be horrified.

Good Omens Illustrated is gorgeous
I already have the normal novel version myself but after watching the dvd of good omens with my mum which she mentioned that she’s watched to my uncle he then recommended that she should read the book it’s really good ,so she later asked if she could borrow my copy at some point so she could read it herself so thought i’d buy her the illustrated version for christmas. The artwork is gorgeous but please note only aziraphale and crowley are tv accurate. The rest of the characters are either the wrong gender or skin colour.

Beautiful gift edition
Ok so if you are looking at this for yourself or as a gift then you probably already have at least two copies of the book already. The question is do you need another? The answer stands and falls on the quality of illustrations and the quality of the finish, both are superb! This book is a perfect gift for anyone who loves Good Omens , it’s not what I’d call a reading copy but it’s a joy to own.

ME encanta

Illustrazioni molto belle sia a colori che in b/n. Se proprio vogliamo trovare una pecca: Crowley e Aziraphale sono disegnati come nella serie TV e non come descrizione libro.

This is slightly different to the original text. More input from Neil Gaiman. This is not a bad thing. It just is more like the tv series.
