## Description

This book is written and designed to be a practical clinical handbook of moxibustion to be used by modern practitioners and students of Eastern Asian medicine in everyday clinical settings. It contains techniques and treatments as old as the Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic) and as contemporary as modern clinical trials. It has information on techniques that every practitioner will find useful. To prepare for the writing of this book the author personally experimented with most of the techniques described in the book so that she could write clear step-by-step directions. In addition to very understandable directions, over 100 photo illustrations covering every aspect of preparation and patient care using moxa are provided where necessary. The practical, useable nature of this book will help many practitioners increase the effectiveness of their moxibustion treatments. Included are sections on: Moxibustion's specific functions and uses How to grow and process mugwort into moxibustion floss Moxibustion techniques of all kinds, using mugwort as well as other medical substances Recipes for making moxa ointments Using needle moxa methods, moxa boxes, liquid moxa, moxa plasters and pastes The use of specific acupoints in moxa therapy Preventive therapy with moxibustion Moxa prescriptions for specific conditions

Review: The most phenomenal text I’ve ever read on moxibustion - I’m surprised I haven’t written a review on this compendium yet because it has changed the way I understand and practice Acupuncutre. The roots of this ancient practice, its history, guidelines for the body map and even appropriate ways to incorporate moxa into the lunar cycles as it was originally practiced and referenced in the Su Wen Ch 26. The various methods and power acupoint for moxibustion usage helped me teach my students how to chunk broad material such as this so you can begin working with and familiarizing yourself with a few potent pieces. Then you can go back and add to your toolbox. This is a reference book through and through but I couldn’t put it down as I had to try and practice all the methods we didn’t have time to learn in school! Moxibustion is my primary modality in practice and I have a 85-90% success rate on qualified patients. I can’t emphasize this enough, and she also states in the book…PRACTICE ON YOURSELF! This stuff works
Review: Amazing and comprehensive - Although moxibustion is an integral part of acupuncture, it is often treated as an adjunctive form of treatment because of the smoke and smell factor. I am very impressed by the level of detail on ALL forms of moxibustion (even the San Fu Jiu that I have had such difficulty getting info on). It seems that very little is written about moxibustion as a separate treatment and this is a much needed book. I have only two tiny complaints. Obviously the author did not expect to sell many books in the US since all measurements are given in metric. That's not really a problem, but I am used to seeing measurements given both ways in the books I read (published in the US and elsewhere) so I wonder why the author chose not to do that. The other is that there is a great deal of repetition, especially of cautions, contraindications, and safety warnings. Procedures are also written in the flow of text and then repeated in boxes. I assume that is because the book is designed as a text for students. As a practitioner it slows down the reading process for an otherwise fascinating book. The author is very straight forward about toxins in traditional moxa formulas and how to avoid them, very honest about scarring (or marking) moxibustion and the risks involved. My take home message is that among all the varieties of moxibustion available there is one that will work for you and your patients somewhere, if you choose to pursue it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comprehensive and practical
*by C***C on December 23, 2017*

I recommend this book often for practitioner of Chinese Medicine. This could easily be a several volume set and is really dense with quality information. It is very comprehensive covering everything from the process of making moxa sticks, additional herbs to add to moxa sticks, and very direct clinical applications. There is no fluff. Practitioners get the essential information that is just detailed enough to be useful, but not so much as to put you asleep long after you get the main points. An aspect I really appreciate about this is the care formulas in the event of a moxa burn. There are many tcm clinal guides I keep in storage because so much can be referenced online now. This book is not one of them. There is truly unique information that is very valuable to keep on hand.
