I use these to twist around 1-3" glow sticks and then tie the other end around a large paper clip. I open one end of the paper clip up a little and clip it onto my fishing line at night. This simple setup allows me to see when I get a bite at night as it moves up or down when a fish bites. I have had many more hook-ups as I can see the bite much sooner than before and am more ready to set the hook at the right time. I used to use bread ties for this setup, but the 3" Nite Ize ties are so much better and I don't have to worry about them rusting or breaking when I leave them on my boat or out in the weather. I have also used these to attach a small battery-powered lantern to my boat's bimini rail at the top and use it for over head lighting. The uses for these are just endless. These are incredibly useful in all sizes, for both temporary and semi-permanent tying/securing tasks. I mostly use them for "cable managment"...where that term is applied in the broadest sense. Here are some of the applications I'm using these (in various sizes)for right now: -Cord/cable management behind my desk (for example, keeping the video and power cords from dual monitors in close company) -Cable management on top of my desk (I keep a mesh container filled with various USB cable form factors on my desk; this product keeps them neatly separated) -Cable management in a storage bin: I keep a bin of various ethernet and other cables in a cabinet in my office.
