Excellent sleeping bag!
For the price, I'm very pleased. I used this camping sleeping bag to tackle the West Coast Trail. It's fairly lightweight (1.4kg) but the quality is superb. It keeps you warm in temperatures as low as 5C. The internal material is soft but it's still synthetic, therefore light and water resistant. I kept the sleeping bag in it's case (which isn't a compression bag) then placed it inside a garbage bag to ensure that it wouldn't get wet while hiking. This worked brilliantly. I'd recommend as an everyday sleeping bag (very comfortable) that's also light and warm enough to take during multi-day hiking trips.

Very durable, keeps you warm and cozy!
This is a very nice sleeping bag that is comfortable, lightweight, and very portable for backpacking. While it's not the thinnest or lightest, it is a great value and a very high quality product. I bought two of these - one for me, one for my wife - and we have used them in both car camping with my child and also back country backpacking. This bag works great and I am very happy with this purchase. Here are my thoughts: 1. The 20 degree rating is a survival rating. For comfort, add about 20 degrees - call it a 40 degree bag. If it's going to be warmer than that, you can leave the bag partially unzipped. If it's colder, you will need a base layer to help you preserve your body heat. 2. This bag works fine for me as far as size - I'm about six feet and average build. There's plenty of room for my feet (which stay good and warm by the way) as well as tucking in your head if I choose to. I normally leave my head out and just wear a cap if it gets too cold. 3. The bag is very durable. We have used our bags numerous times and there have been no problems with the zippers or the construction. 4. There's no need for a compression sack - this compresses pretty small as is. Again, we love these. It's not the lightest, the most insulated, or the biggest brand name, but it is very good and durable for the price. I highly recommend this to my fellow backpackers without hesitation.

Excellent bag, but not good for -7C without lots of extra clothes.
This is a very nice sleeping bag. It is much lighter and smaller than an older +4C bag I've been using for 15 years. I really like the soft material in the inside. I'm 5'11" and 175 lbs and the bag fits me very well in light clothing. I think this will be the perfect summer or early fall bag for me. This past week I was camping on colder weather though and I didn't find the bag as warm as I was expecting. The coldest night saw rain turn to sleet turn to snow and then temperatures dropped significantly to -12C around 3am. I had to wear many layers in order to stay warm enough to last the night. I was wearing one base wicking layer, one base thermal layer, plus three more layers head to toe of regular clothing followed by a medium weight insulating later. On my upper body I added a polar fleece and light rain jacket. On my head I had a toque and a light hoodie, plus the rain jacket hood. I still needed to sleep with only about a 2" opening at the top of the bag and my whole head inside just to stay warm enough not to shiver. It still want comfortable. I was sleeping on top of an inflatable Klymitic Static V insulated sleeping pad plus regular foam bed roll. The night before this the temperature was about -6C and I had two less layers of clothes to remain cold, but not shivering. I was expecting a bit more warmth from the bag. With all of the extra clothing on and needing to close the face opening up completely, I found the bag to be a bit short for me and a bit tight all around. I don't consider this to be the typical use for this bag though, so I'm still generally happy with it. If I was planning on using it in cold weather all the time though, I would get a warmer bag and possibly a bit larger. Overall the quality of the bag seems excellent though and I expect to use it for many years to come.

Great bag for the Price-lightweight but warm
We ordered these bags for overnight/weekend backpacking trips. We aren't ultralight backpackers, since we stick to 1-2 nights, but this bag was still lighter than most we considered, so I was grateful for that. We have other Teton products that we use with car camping, so we are familiar with the company and their customer service and products. First, the bags are fairly light at just 2lb 9 oz. Great for weekend backpackers. They also compress nicely in the sack they came with, but would do so even more if you bought a compression bag. However, they easily fit in the bottom sleeping bag compartment of our backpacks as is. The sack also has a strap on one end so you can easily attach it to the outside of your pack. The bag is warm, and it's important to remember that sleeping bag ratings are for SURVIVAL and assume you're properly dressed for the weather you're using the bag in--dry base layer or naked, hat, etc. This bag should keep you comfortable at 40F and above if you're properly dressed/dry. If you go to bed in the same clothes you've been wearing all day, you'll get cold in any sleeping bag--always put on clean, dry clothes or sleep naked with a hat. :) If you're worried about warmth, you can easily add a lightweight fleece mummy bag liner--it won't add much weight to your pack, and the extra warmth can be reassuring if you need it. I'm recovering from thyroid cancer and have gained 80lbs, so even as a plus size women at 5'10, 250 lbs, I have plenty of room to zip up and around me so that the bag isn't cold. I'm a side sleeper and I move around a lot at night, but I don't try to roll IN the bag--I roll with the bag. The cinch hood is a nice feature for a bag at this price. Overall, yes, there are lighter and warmer backpacking bags--but for this price point, you'd be hard pressed to find one as warm, light, and soft as this one. If you're a beginner or just do 1-2 night trips from spring, summer, early fall, this bag should exceed your expectations. Add a lightweight fleece liner and you'll be set for even cooler temps. Teton never disappoints.
