Canon provides a Linux driver and guide in its official website (which is a big plus for me and one of the reasons I went for this model) but there was no need for any of that since my distribution recognized the printer just fine by simply going over to the Printers settings and adding the printer. If the printer is connected to the same network as your PC, your Linux distro should be able to automatically recognize it without issues as well. Both printing and scanning work as expected and both functions are performed way faster and with better quality than the "old" HP AIO deskjet printer this is replacing (must be less than 3 years old and barely used). I bought a cheap cable, took the printer off the trash heap, and arranged my desk to allow a direct connection. It's a decent printer and scanner, particularly for the price point. Light usage but it's decent. I needed a second printer for convenience. I qualify as an IT professional. This machine has been out of the box for 2 hours. I've just moved it to the tech-junk heap that's keep for dump runs. This is a cheap unit because it's junk. Lesson learned. Canon produces junk.
