Smooth tone
Quality mouthpiece. Very good for smooth tone and great range - loving it.

Good mouthpiece
Performed just like the reviewed said. Good overall from screamer notes to pedal tones as well! If you are looking for a mouthpiece I would recommend this as well. I swapped from a Vincent Bach 3c Megatone to this and I feel much more comfortable with my tone and sound! Good for marching, concert and jazz band.

This is a nice upgrade at a great price!
Been playing this now for 2 months or so. I've been using a 1970s Benge 7C for many years. I thought I'd try something new that is not expensive just to test my suspicions that my old mpc was handicapping my range. I was right. This piece has opened up my upper range, with a reliable high E/F now, and an (at times) reachable double G, which is awesome as it will get better! I am having to learn how to adjust a bit to reach low and pedal notes but they weren't doing me that much good in section playing anyway. Currently on jazz solos it's a bit annoying to have to reset to go below G in the staff during a run. Must work on that. BUT, to have ready access to the normal range of the instrument above the staff in solos is totally worth relearning some flexibilities. Also it seems like this piece is not as tiring as that 7C, so range remains doable throughout practice and gigs. I am not going to do that endless mouthpiece safari. Because of these initial results, I'm going to work on this steadily and see how far I can go with it. I imagine I could have gotten similar results with a Lotus or Monette but what if I was wrong? I wish I had tried another mpc years ago. At least try the Yamahas before chasing the $300 snake oil. Fit: before buying, I did the homework on specs to know exactly what I have been playing versus what I could be playing. Those spec charts on Yamaha website and on the mouthpiece express website very helpful

Quality.
The Yamaha Bobby Shew Jazz trumpet mouthpiece is a well designed mouthpiece. Notes slot very well through the lower to upper scale range. Good jazz mouthpiece.

First new mouthpiece since music school
I played on a Laskey 80MC through my years at music school. I refused to switch at the time because I felt my tone quality would suffer. I put my horn down for a long time after college because it was too difficult to play and I wasn't working as a musician. This mouthpiece made a huge difference out of the box after not practicing for some time. The responsiveness is impressive and it's much easier to find the effortless center of a pitch. High notes came out easily without strength or conditioning. The tone quality is bright but vibrant. It lacks the depth of tone I can produce on a larger mouthpiece but makes up for it with responsiveness. If you dont have to produce a huge symphonic sound this mouthpiece will make playing the trumpet fun.

cheaper than buying in Japan
My YTR-8310Z (2nd generation) came with the Bobby Shew jazz mouthpiece. It's similar to a Bach 3C. I wanted a 2nd identical mouthpiece for my 2nd house. (I forgot to bring it once.) Glad to buy it cheaper than in Tokyo. Just so you know ... I asked Yamaha for finger rings (O-shaped) instead of saddles (U-shaped). Please see photo. Cost 3000 yen per ring. Work on modification requests is performed at the Yamaha factory in batches several times a year, that is, modification orders from different customers are pooled until there is enough volume for the technicians to do them. I waited exactly 4 months.

Original product
Original product, but there's a silver layer that wears off way too fast.

Screamer!
It's not going to turn you into an amazing trumpeter, but if you occasionally have to do some high work in a band and are more used to classical repertoire it doesn't half help!
