I've attached picture that shows it holding a large all metal and glass lantern (14" high, about 6 lbs) and the hook is more than up to the task. Because the pegs to put then in the ground are so heavy, you can hammer them into hard ground (like we have here in Las Vegas) very forcefully. There are a number reviews on here that dispute or discuss the height of the hook. I've attached a picture that shows the height of the hook IN THE GROUND. This is the measurement you're interested in. I highly recommend these hooks.
