**Q: What is the sensor size of this board?**
A: It is about 1/4 inch.

**Q: Will this work to capture star light at night? I am trying to build an All Sky camera to view the stars.**
A: I had previously answered this from the standpoint of trying to achieve good framerates while still managing to capture stars, and had reported that of course this is pretty much impossible. These particular cameras do not force high amplification, so unlike the ELP 1080P FHD01 USB cameras, you can't get high framerate motion in low light at the cost of high noise. With these OV5647 Arducam boards, you have to drive the framerate very low, costing you pretty much all sense of motion in the scene (except for where streaks are considered acceptable) but you can in fact collect fairly decent starlight. I only figured this out in the last day so that's why I didn't mention it before. It's not like using a good DSLR because the gain is low on these, but.... if you pass THIS to the camera, you can do some pretty interesting things for astro applications:raspistill -q 100 -w 2592 -h 1891 -ISO 3200 -ss 5000000 -ex sports -t 10000 -o longexp.jpg-q drives the image quality to 100%-w and -h specify the capture resolution.2592 x 1944 maxes this camera out, important for pinpoints like stars. I used 1891 for the height to push it to wider aspect but still avoiding the zoom in effect that happens at wider angle aspects. Try 1920x1080 to see what I mean.-ISO 3200 tells it to push the gain on the camera all the way. This is a bit past the specs of the cam to make sure it milks everything it can get.-ss specifies framerate in microseconds. I played with this value A LOT under dark sky tests and found that 5,000,000 microseconds was pretty much the max limit.-ex sports sets the capture to "sports mode", which is suprisingly important. It pushes performance out of the camera like none of the other modes can.-t 10000 forces the camera to time out and take the picture after ten seconds. I found that I could eliminate this and do fine. Increasing it does nothing for me.-o of course specifies the output filenameUsing this you'll get some noise but quite a lot of stars in capture, and since it's quite long, it's good for meteor trails as long as they are reasonably bright. The NOIR version of the cam really helps with that since it picks up on very hot objects especially well.

**Q: a direct replacement to the Pi v2 camera? (dimensions are different, but the Jetson Nano requires the v2 sensor, yet I want telephoto)**

A: Horizontal Field of view: 84 degrees
Vertical Field of view: 63 degrees
Diagonal  Field of view: 105 degrees
Without the lens it is just a sensor, so you won't have a focused image. The camera module is useless without a lens.

By replacing the fixed lens of the original Raspberry Pi camera with the common M12 lens mount system this upgraded camera gives you a wide array of inexpensive glass lens options for shooting with your Pi. The lens focuses by threading into the board mount and this allows for extremely close up macro photography. This camera worked right out of the box with both a Pi model B and a Pi 2 model B however it will not fit into cases designed for the original Raspberry Pi camera as the board is larger.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding for its purpose.

This certainly wasn’t made to produce broadcast videos or take studio quality photos, however it was made to replace several “strip” cams for Raspberry Pi and other SBC products because of their low quality images and it does that like a trooper. I have only modestly experimented with it up until now trying it first in my Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard because it was so easy to test. I then connected it to my CrowPi2 because that’s really what it’s made for and ran it through some drills. I’m very interested in additive manufacturing and design and print many dodads to combine with RPi, Arduino and other controllers including legos. So I replaced existing cameras with this one and ran it through the paces. It performed flawlessly and with superior images. My real purpose for buying one more camera was to add it to my new Creality Ender-3 S1 Pro that arrived last week (don’t know why, but I was one of the first in the USA to receive one) and I thought I’d make several videos demonstrating the new capabilities. It’s work terrific and I will be buy two or three more. I highly recommend it.
