Review: Genuine AC Delco parts- they truly are better than 99% of the aftermarket stuff. Includes new spring clips and a TINY amount of silicone grease- which really isn't enough if you clean and lube the caliper slide pins like you're supposed to. These are the same pads that came on my 2015 Impala from the factory- they are ceramic and easily last 50K miles. My rotors were still above minimum thickness (stamped on the side of the rotor hat) so they were left on the car and I just swapped pads. It takes longer to put the car on jack stands and get the wheels off than to do the actual brake job. Only problem is I forgot to get rear ones- I'm used to doing those less often, but in this particular car they are wearing at the same rate. Save the money- as the dealer quoted me $700 for a pad swap without changing rotors, which is completely insane. It's a .6 hour job according to GM. It took me one hour from opening the garage door to washing my hands afterwards, working at a very leisurely pace, cleaning the calipers extensively and lubing slides, cleaning the insides of the wheels from brake dust etc.

**Q: Why do brakes need to be replaced in the first place?**
A: Friction material on the brake pads or shoes rubs against rotors or drums to slow the vehicle. In time, that material wears away and the pads/shoes must be replaced. Sometimes the rotors and drums also must be replaced.

**Q: What’s the squealing sound I hear when braking?**
A: Over time, wear indicators in brakes pads may contact the rotors’ surface when braking, resulting in a metallic squealing sound. Vehicles equipped with wear sensors may also provide an alert that minimum brake pad thickness has been reached.

**Q: What if it’s more of a grinding sound?**
A: If all the friction material has been worn away, the metal backing plate of the brake pad will be the material in contact with the rotor during braking. It causes a grinding sound and braking performance is often diminished.

**Q: Why do the brakes seem to pulsate when stopping?**
A: It may be due to poor-quality brake pads, warped rotors or unevenly worn tires. Have the pulsation diagnosed as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of greater brake-system wear or damage.

**Q: What about vibrations or shaking in the steering wheel?**
A: This is more serious than pulsation. If the brakes are very worn or the rotors are warped, there can be a significant vibration or shaking in the steering wheel when braking. It may mean brake service is needed immediately.
