They are just the right size, they pick up the sugar lumps I use { standard grocer sizes and types, sometimes plain white sugar, sometimes demerara sugar lumps } , the work well, and they don't crush the sugar lump, nor drop it unexpectedly where you don't want it. The design is simple, and the little bit of ornamentation and decoration is just the right amount to be pleasing, while not taking a penny away from the items functionality.
