## Overview

The KING K#-WHET STONE is a premium 1200 grit medium sharpening stone made from durable aluminum oxide abrasive. Designed for professional and serious home cooks, it requires soaking in water before use to unlock its full sharpening potential. Crafted in Japan, this whetstone offers consistent, even wear and a refined finish, making it an essential base stone for maintaining and enhancing high-quality knives.

## Description

For professional use the finer the grit, the denser the material, which leads to a finer finish of the surface of the tool. Finer grits cut slower because they remove less material. Grits are often given as a number, which indicates the density of the particles with a higher number denoting higher density and therefore smaller particles. Dimensions of the stone (inches): 8 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 3 1/4"material: Artificial stone origin: Japan grit: Ara-to,1200 (coarse).

Review: one of the best sharpening stones I have used - I got this 1200 along with the King 6000 in a single order, 2 different sellers. As the photos show, I got the good stuff, the deluxe version of each. I have sharpened 3 of my own knives so far today since they arrived, and I am about to sharpen the rest. It is that good to use. Feedback is awesome, I can tell immediately when i am moving off bevel or not following the grind lines. 2-3 passes for a burr on Rockwell 55-58, and 4-5 on Rockwell 60-62. Good cutting speed for a 1200 grit stone, but I can't wait to get the 300. I really like the feel of this stone. If you have been raised on Sharp Pebble and others like it, you will realize the difference a good stone makes once you have knives worth it! My Wusthof and Calphalon german steels, my cheap $15 dollar knife (Rockwell ~55) and my Sedge gyoto (VG-10 about 61HRC) all sharpen tremendously better than on those soft stones, and remind me of the old Arkansas stones I was raised on. The response to pressure, the smooth feel, the cutting power all remind me of those good stones. not the new ones either, old ones from before 1960. Anyway, this is a good stone, and considering the money, it is a fantastic stone. My only complaint is how fast it seems to be wearing, as there is a lot of grit in my pond. There seems to be no problem as it is still flat and matches my straightedge wonderfully, even after several sharpenings. I may upgrade to a different stone someday, but if I didn't sharpen a bunch of knives and use this a lot, just sharpening 1x a week/month with a few kitchen knives?? this would last for 5-10 years, at least. The 6000 is even better, near mirror-polish on all steels. UPDATE: after using it several times, and getting more used to it, the more I like the stone, and the more I hate 1 particular thing about it. The drying time. I live in an arid part of the country, and it still takes at LEAST 3 days of sitting out on a drying rack to be safe to put away, and I will still sometimes get wrinkling on the box. Cuts good if it has a roughed up surface and something to bite on, a decent tooth edge if you sharpen no higher in grit. A fantastic base for higher grits if you choose to go higher. Lots of grit, but seemingly slow wearing or, at least, even wearing, as it is still flat on the 1 side I have used. When I replace this, it will be with a splash-n-go
Review: Good whetstone for beginners - I bought this after having watched a YouTube video of a chef who recommended it. I was gifted pretty good Japanese double beveled knives 9 years ago for my wedding. I’d consider myself an average home cook, I sometimes use my knives 3 times a day, sometimes I don’t use them at all. Anyway, my knives hadn’t been sharpened in 9 YEARS! They have been dull for a while but I still use them all the time. I have known that they needed to be sharpened but I didn’t know how to do it until I watched that video. So I bought this block. I’m sure it’s a great stone and that it’s just a learning curve, but i wish I would have bought one that had 2 grits (idk if that’s the right term). Anyway, on its own, it works well, but after sharpening one knife for about 45 mins (I know it should only take about 20 but I’m new at this) my double beveled knife was significantly sharper than when I started, but it also still had chips and nicks along the edge. Also because it is only one roughness, after washing the knife I noticed it rusted super easily. I figure I will need more of a finishing stone to polish it off. But for the 1200 grit whetstone, it works great to sharpen.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are the dimensions shown accurate? Someone else said their stone's thickness was much less**
A: the dimensions on the stone i recieved was 8 1/8 in by 2.5in by 1 3/8in

**Q: Is it ok to leave the stone soaked on a permanent bases and take it out just before use?”**
A: I have this stone, I left it soaking for a month. Nothing bad happened.
Might want to change out the water on a weekly basis though or it will grow scum.

**Q: Is this ideal for usage with an axe or hatchet? Or should I look for a different kind of whetstone?**
A: It can be used to sharpen an axe. But its a pretty fine grit stone for sharpening an axe unless you're refining the edge.
Also the size and weight of the stone can make it a little hard to sharpen an axe. Maybe an "axe puck" or buy the stone and cut it into thirds.

**Q: Does it come with a base to hold the stone?**
A: No just the stone

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Legacy Stone & Great Performance
*by D***N on December 17, 2025*

I'll continue to use KING synthetic stones on my Field and Kitchen Cutlery. This one came at a great price to replace my other ageing one of the same grit. I also use natural stones but just love the consistency of these KING's for touching up or reprofiling my Stainless or the bit softer Carbon blades. Will continue to recommend.
