## Description

Makita’s 7.2V Lithium-Ion cordless driver-drill kit with auto-stop clutch delivers convenience and precision drilling and driving power to torque-specific assembly applications. The DF012DSE combines the ultra-compact design of a cordless screwdriver with 21 clutch settings and an auto-stop clutch for extra fastening control. The DF012DSE is powered by a Makita-built motor that delivers 71 in.Lbs. Of max torque in drilling mode. The 2-speed gear selection offers 200 RPM and 650 RPM for low or high speed applications. The 21 clutch settings offer a range of fastening torque, from 32 in. Lbs. In clutch setting #1 to 50 in. Lbs. In #21. For added precision and control, the auto-stop clutch shuts off the tool when the clutch disengages and helps prevent over-driving on the fastener. For extra versatility, the tool will operate in straight or pistol grip positions. The DF012DSE weighs just 1.2 lbs. With a more compact design at only 10-3/4” long (in-line) and 8-5/8” long (pistol), with an ergonomic shape that fits like a glove for reduced operator fatigue. It is also equipped with a built-in L.E.D. Work light operated by a separate switch on the opposite side of the rocker, and provides illumination for more accurate work. The DF012DSE also includes a low battery indicator: the L.E.D. Light blinks when the battery needs to be recharged. The switch drive Lock prevents Active discharge in the case when not in use, and allows the tool to be a screwdriver in Lock position. The DF012DSE delivers versatile power combined with a compact design, dual position handle, and precision clutch settings for torque-specific assembly work.

Review: Not a camera person - Bought it for my husband. He's pleased with it. Had a Craftsman before but this has more power and overall better.
Review: Great Small Driver - This is my go-to driver for small tasks and has performed perfectly so far. The torque clutch stops rotation after one hit, which is much better than on my drills. I disassembled some furniture today and this saved an incredible amount of time and was much easier to use than a drill or impact driver. I then used it to pilot drill holes then drive 2 1/2" #9 screws to hang a birdhouse. It will also find use on electrical work and working on my bikes. The size makes it more convenient to carry than even the small impact drivers. The only negatives are that the price is high and I wish it had a battery level indicator like the LXT batteries do.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: brushless motor?**
A: The unit is sealed so I have not disassembled it to physically observe it's construction, but I believe it does have brushes. I did preform a simple test, that leads me to believe this.

I used an old school AM radio and tuned it to a frequency where there are no radio stations Broadcasting. Then I held it close to the Makita screw driver and energized it. I could hear static noise on the radio that was correlated to the screw driver operation. I know from electrical radio theory, that a sparking connection (electric current flowing though the brush to commutator gap) generates a broad band spectrum of RF energy that a AM radio can pick up.

I repeated this test with a battery powered drill where I can see it has brushes and got the same results.

I hope this helps. I'm personally pleased with the performance of the Makita screw driver. The torque clutch setting is electronic. When the clutch hits the setting limit, the motor stops instantly. The built in work light works well and can be switched off manually.

**Q: Hello, where is this made?**
A: As of 2021 this is now made in China. (Like most of there tools now) They still make tools. In Japan, but they now only sell those tools IN Japan! So I have to order most of my Mikita tools on Amazon Japan and pay extra for shipping to get quality tools. Disappointed Mikita…

**Q: Hi. Are the drive buttons on both sides? Ie for left handed users.**
A: the drive buttons are only located on 1 side. once you engage either the drive button or the reverse button and trigger is pulled it shouldn't make a difference as to what side the engaging buttons are on as you don't need to hold those buttoms just the trigger as you would on any drill

**Q: Is this Makita better than the Dewalt with Gyroscopic or the Milwaukee with speed control built into the trigger?**
A: Hello, I used the Dewalt for a few years and had to replace it when the gyro quit working. It lasts about a year as an appliance tech. The Makita I still use after 3 years. It seems to have the same power and battery life is still good.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ THIS IS WHAT A PEN DRIVER SHOULD BE!
*by S***V on August 9, 2017*

If you need a small compact pen driver with power to spare, this is the best choice. I have the Panasonic 3.6V pen driver and it has been my work horse for the last five years. Although expensive right now, it certainly is the best choice for driving those occasional stubborn screws. It has twice the torque of the previous generation and the electronic clutch works just as good as my other driver. It's built to last, very high quality just like the Panasonic. If you happen to look for reviews, I was not able to find any. There are no videos on YouTube or any website that I could find presently. On some websites that sell this they state that it has variable speed 0-200 and 0-650. THIS IS NOT VARIABLE SPEED! It has 2 fixed speeds. It's as small as my other driver, the led light is bright and on spot. I have also driven some 3 inch screws into a thick wooden block without any problems. This driver will surely make you smile with the size and power this thing has. Good work Makita!!!
