I tried these, Thorlos, and Smartwool. These are thin. I prefer the Smartwool or Thorlos. These Wigwam are the least expensive. These were my entry point into the wool socks market. Purchased the Smartwool and Thorlos from Zappos, which is owned by Amazon. Thorlos isn't wool, but very comfortable. Costco wool socks at 3 for $12 are a great value, but not available in white. They also pill heavily. **Q: Are these socks itchy like many wool socks - and are they actually warm, or are they porous enough they let a lot of air through?** A: Hello, and thank you for your question! Our 625 sock utilizes a wool spun wool yarn that is a heavier gauge yarn than you may find in other socks. This may cause an "itchy" feeling, depending on your level of sensitivity to wool yarn. The knit of the socks will not reduce the amount of warmth the socks provide. I'm not even sure who made them, but Wig-Wam is the only manufacturer I know of these days.They're warm in the winter and cool in the summer and totally cushioney (is that a word?) No they don't last as long as I would want, but they certainly last almost as long as some other socks I've worn, and longer than most other wool socks I've had.If you've never tried these, go for it! But give them a chance, before you trash them... I can't tell, since I'm used to them, but they might take some getting used to (see first sentence.)
