I have a reach of 7'9". Would I need a step ladder or would the sabre set off the detector.** A: The sabre is 330mm (13") long fully extended. You would need to get the end of the sabre within 6" of the detector otherwise you will probably need to discharge quite a bit of smoke to get it to travel toward the detector. I have 9' ceilings and it works for me standing on the floor. I am 6' 3" so that helps. The can is quite small. I found the pictures deceiving.
