I use them in the laundry room. I have it set for them to turn on in the daylight & the dark, due to my light switch being in a poor location. The motion is actually detected OVER 10 feet away. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the switch is cheaply made. I had to fidget with the batteries and the switch to get them to work. And the switch is also unmarked, so I had to guess and check to set them at the correct mode. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars They Work, but fussy sensor - UPDATE with E-mail from Seller *by R***T on Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2018* The sensor is a little weird, doesn't quite work like the instructions say. I use these in my basement in a little corner where light can't reach very well. These lights flick on, not when they detect motion, but when they detect thermal presence. (They will not turn on if there's already sufficient light in the room, or so they're not -supposed- to.)70% of the time, these lights work just fine. Turning them on is easy. But they don't always turn off. In the short time I've had them, I've noticed occasionally they'll flick on, in their little corner, and not shut off for -hours- despite nobody going into that side of the basement. I even turn on all the lights and practically blind the thing (since it's not supposed to turn on in light) and they still don't shut off. In one case I straight up put one of the lights into a drawer and closed it and it still didn't flick off until the next morning.For me, this isn't much a problem. They're good for garages or basements where you need a little light in a corner that you need to occasionally stick your hands in, but I wouldn't buy these as nightlights for your bedroom. If you get up in the middle of the night, they light up, and go back to bed expecting them to shut off in a few minutes , you'll be waiting a while before it gets dark again.In literally every other way, they work just fine. The light is bright, but not blinding. We put one in a bathroom which has no outlet, only an overhead light (old house) as a night light. Reliably turns on and sufficient light for night visits.Does not seem to use up batteries fast, same 3 AAA batteries for 3 months and still going. Another used in the tool box lid, the third in an unlighted closet.During a power outage, my daughter moved all 3 to the kitchen while she cooked dinner.We used included magnetic dots to mount on non magnetic surfaces, which made it easy to relocate them temporarilyUpdate. We have purchased 3 more sets. Using in stairwell (handy when no hand free for switch), in a lower corner cabinet (so you can see what's WAY in back), etc. I keep one on my frig to grab when need a quick light, say to check mailbox after dark or look under a chair. Very handy in a household where flashlights seem to wander off.Also for a relative's home. She uses them in a hallway so doesn't have to leave light on all the time when just passing thru carrying laundry, etc. She also swears putting one near a spot her cat was choosing to use instead of litter box deterred it!TIP: My hand strength isn't good so I use a flathead screwdriver or blunt tip scissors to help twist the back on an off. Just a little sideways push and it snaps open or closed.All mine have worked right out of box, but I test all right away even if I don't have an immediate use. You can leave the protective film over top and back off to test. It isn't always immediate.
