## Description

While inheriting the basic functions and design philosophy of the current PlayStation 2, the internal design architecture of this newly redesigned PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system model has been completely overhauled. Slimmer and more lightweight, its internal volume has been reduced by 75 percent, overall weight has been halved and the thickness trimmed down to 2.8cm (thickness of current model is 7.8cm). Its size is almost as small as a hardcover book, making it easier to carry around. Equipped with both a modem port and an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming, the new PlayStation 2 sets new standards in the fusion of design and functionality.

Review: Why buy anything else? - In my books, this has to be one of the best consoles I've used yet. As an upgrade from the original PS2, the difference is amazing and I'm glad I chose this. Actually, I had a PS2 a few years back, but I've tried all the consoles since then, and nothing compared to the fun I got of the PS2. Luckily, I had my very old PSX tucked away somewhere, so I've been using that. And the great thing about this upgrade is that you not only get the enjoyment out of current PS2 titles, but older PSX games as well. I know, not a new feature, since the original PS2 did this, but it's still valuable, considering there are so many great PSX titles. If you think the box the console comes in is small, you should see inside. I'll admit, its been packaged very economically - no space wasted, so putting everything back in will be a laugh one day (should the day come!). But I couldnt believe how small the console was - just 9" by 6", and 1" thick! About the size of a short novel, or a bit larger than a DVD case. Theirs fewer vents though - just a couple of slots at the back, and at the front. The controller is improved too - the buttons have a matt surface which are no slip and very comfy, as with the silver plastic. The analog sticks are much better quality too, and the controller actually feels lighter. The only thing I would say is that the lid does feel very flimsy, but I don't intend of giving it a rough time, so I don't worry about it. Their is no On/Off button at the back like the old PS2, so its just a case of pulling out the thinner AC cord when your not using the console for a long time, or you put it on Standy when your taking a break. Upon switching it on, their are a few software changes, but nothing worth celebrating, unless you get excited of a new "PS2" logo when you switch it on for the first time. Somehow, mine new the time and date without having to set it.. can't explain that yet! You'll need a memory card to save your systems settings by the way. So what else has changed? Theirs the infa red port built in for the DVD player - no need for the adapter. The disc lid of course - now actually opens without a motor to stop dust being induced. The noise is also significant - its literally silent, which brings me onto a few points which I think some people having cleared up. Firstly, yes, it DOES have a fan built in. As you switch the console on, it wirls around like a laptop to blow away dust, and to test it basically. It's just as well its there though - when it starts to whirl as the console gets hot, it blows out alot of hot air through the vents. Luckily, I've found some small extra fans that can be attatched via the USB port at the front to buy. As far as entertainment goes, the PS2 is stronger than ever. With a catologue of hundreds of games - both old and new, this is the perfect console. Its portability allows me to simply take it from one room to another (when the antiques roadshow is on...) in minutes, because I bought a seperate AV cable for just a few pound which I leave hooked up to another telly. And I don't think any other console at the moment can provide this portabilty, entertainment value, and money value (games pre-owned for less than £10) apart from the Playstation 2 Slimline, which is by far still going strong! (P.S - this silver version will attract less dust)
Review: Sony Silver PlayStation 2 Console (Slimline) - Overall very happy with the actual console, unfortunately one controller didn't work at all and the other one is intermittent but i'm ok with that i've ordered new ones, it also came with some games which i wasn't expecting so that was a bonus.
