When I mounted this on the apex of our roof, it was just enough to get a direct line of sight to the cell tower. I'm finally testing at 25mb download and 10mb upload speeds. So I can't really comment on if this is a result of the quality of the unit versus other brands. Any brand may have had these results in this case. The installation was very simple, it's just that I hate ladders. Keep in mind you will need the special 50 ohm coaxial cable. It's a whopping 3/8" thick and the connectors at either end are 3/4" wide. That means you need to drill a huge hole in the side of your house to get it in. And you will also need the pigtail splitter-adapter to convert the single coax cable to two for the Nighthawk if you are using that one. The unit is well made. Seems weather resistant enough and has a profile that should be OK in high winds. The connections are secure. I didn't need to use their tech support, so I can't comment on that.
