Unfolded and empty, the organizer stays mostly open/upright on its own. The side (mesh) pockets don't have a lot of give, so they are only suited for small or flat item (cables, screwdriver, etc). I looked at a number of other similarly priced organizers here-- most were also black nylon-like material, but many had bad reviews on the material, sturdiness, and design. I'm glad I went with this one. A nice, neat way to organize the things you carry in your vehicle, and be able to easily remove them when the space is needed for something else. I have pulled it up multiple times and the carpet looks fine. But, if you have 'felt' other material intended to look smooth, this could be a problem. **Q: is the bottom rigid?** A: It depends on what your definition of rigid is. It's rigid in terms that I don't expect it to come apart or rip. Highly Recommended ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for organizing the trunk, not much else *by H***N on March 2, 2021* If you read through the reviews, you'll know it doesn't come with panels at the bottom to keep it sturdy. I didn't read them so I was disappointed to find them missing. But the box it came it was ridiculously big so I used it to cut some squares out and it's fantastic. I wouldn't use it for carrying anything, but as a trunk organizer it's great. Plenty of room to hold all that "trunk junk" and keep stuff from rolling around back there. The size is perfect for my cx-5 and the Velcro is a huge bonus. The walls are sturdy, but NOT the bottom.
