## Description

The Tapo H500 Smart Home Hub serves as the central control for a secure and streamlined smart home ecosystem, emphasizing both extensive storage and unified management. Compatible with up to 64 Tapo Sub-1G switches, sensors, or buttons + 16 Tapo cameras or video doorbells. Sensors can include door sensors, window sensors, motion sensors, and water leak detectors. With no monthly fees, the H500 includes both 16GB of built-in local storage plus support for added storage with no capacity limit via a 2.5'' SATA HDD/SSD (5V power/10W max operating watts, sold separately). The hub includes everything needed to get started: one Tapo H500 unit, four screws for mounting, a 4.9 ft 12V DC power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable, and a quick start guide. Built with a clean, compact design, the hub measures 6.31 x 3.89 x 3.28 inches and weighs 1.3 lbs. It features a range of useful ports and buttons, including 1x USB 2.0 Port, 1x USB Type-C Port, 1x HDMI Port, 1x LAN Port, 1x Power Port, 1x Reset Button, 1x Answer/SYNC Button, 1x Decline/Mute Button, and 1x Volume Down Button. The Tapo H500 supports a wide range of integration options, including compatibility with Google Assistant, desertcart Alexa, and any Matter-compatible controller. For Matter devices that rely on Thread, a separate Thread hub is required. This Matter hub operates reliably in environments ranging from 32°F to 104°F, with humidity levels of 10% to 90% (non-condensing). The hub also meets key security standards of FCC, CE, RoHS, and WEEE, and features 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS and WPA2-PSK/WPA3-Personal protocols for enhanced data protection. Batteries are included, with an average life span of 3 to 5 years. The hub also ensures reliable operation through flexible networking options, supporting both Wi-Fi and wired connections through a router, with the latter serving as a dependable backup.

Review: A solid and capable foundation for AI-enabled security at lower cost - I replaced four aging 1K cameras and a 1K doorbell along with their annual on-line cloud subscription from a well-known/popular brand with a Tapo H500 hub, four Tapo 4K outdoor cameras, two Tapo 2K indoor cameras, and two Tapo 2K doorbells. I purchased a SSD for the hub for local storage instead of subscribing to Tapo Care. Staying with and upgrading the same brand and activating their AI features would have cost me 3.5x more over five years. Tapo's hub was extremely easy to install and the entire configuration has worked flawlessly. I've been impressed with the built-in AI features. I made it through the learning curve of the feature-rich Tapo app without too much problem and now that it is second-nature, I actually prefer it over the solution I replaced (as good as it was). The hub also connects with two Kasa (a sister brand from TP-Link) wall switches and an indoor/outdoor power outlet that I had previously purchased for my garage and patio. My hub easily handles the 8 cameras, two of which are taking snapshots every 30s. The cameras are handling about 250 motion events a day. AI identification of motion type and of individuals have exceeded my expectation, especially compared to the AI trial I used with my former solution. I'm only getting the notifications I truly need to know about thanks to AI feature set and capabilities of the hub and devices. But all the activities are there when I need them. I got a great deal on a 4TB SSD, but 1TB would have been more than adequate for my needs as well as providing longer retention than the competing cloud service. I have a growing library of automations with the garage/driveway light switch integration with night-time motion detection being my favorite. The hub itself is relatively small for all it does. I have it connected to my TV via HDMI and can quickly see a real-tine feed from four of my cameras. But, I use the Tapo IOS app on my iPad or iPhone for monitoring most of the time. I do plan to expand upon my Tapo hub investment with more smart devices and lighting. So far, it has been a very solid foundation for my needs.
Review: Good Hub - It works the way I wanted it. I have mine setup up with a 1TB HDD, recording 24/7. The AI detection is not very good, doesn't seem to recognize and I have to keep adding the faces of family for it to recognize.. other than that, I like the ability to hook up my surveillance tv through HDMI.
