As far as about tall they sit, they stand about 2 1/2 inches. **Q: Is the material cotton?** A: Mostly cotton with spandex and nylon. Note, this head band runs small. When l was shopping I bought the nIke one and the Suddora head band. My head is on the large size. The Suddora fits better. The Suddora is 80% cotton, 12% spandex, and 8% nylon. I have been through several days of 90 or more with humidity. I bike 20 to25 miles, l didn't get any sweat on my face. I bought several more.
