The diagram for the Dell XPS 8700 series has either a 92mm or a 80mm rear exhaust fan (this would be easy to measure). The four pin is for the PWM aspect to these fans (Multi-speed). If you have three pin existing fan, then the existing fan is single-speed fan. Recommended to replace with a single speed (three-pin). The Noctua are fantastic fans for long life and quiet. **Q: I want to get a 3/4 pin usb power adapter. it says fan needs a start volt of 5 or below, what's the start voltage of this?** A: If you can live with a thicker version of this fan i.e. one that is 92x25mm, there is a version that runs with a USB power adapter at 5V.
