Review: A Scientific Tool for a Toy's Price - This is a great little microscope for budding young scientists! It is sturdy, nicely weighted so it doesn't slide around, easy to adjust. The images are exceedingly crisp. Setting the microscope up was either a little tricky placing the lens in the stem, or the "installers" were a little confused:) Ultimately everything ended up in the right place. In retrospect, we probably should have let our little 8 year old scientist assemble it! Beyond the sturdiness of the scope, what is particularly nice is that it has three magnification Levels - 40x, 100x, 400x, and dual lights. After researching microscopes for days I came to understand that many in the same price range have single magnification and/or one light source if any. It comes with 5 prepared slides which really jumpstarted her curiosity. She has been using the blank slides to examine various specimens she finds around the house. The stains, test tube, forceps, lens papers, etc. really complete the set. The enclosed book is very comprehensive! She has not used it much yet, but it's a great resource for later explorations. Many reviewers have commented that a case would have been nice, and would have been. However, a dust cover is provided, and truthfully our scientist prefers to have it out at her disposal at all times because she is always finding something she needs to examine. This microscope can easily carry her through to high school I believe.

**Q: Hi. Does this microscope have a stop to keep the lens from hitting a slide?**
A: Hi Kim,
This microscope does not have a stop to prevent the 40X objective from contacting the stage. Care must be taken when using that objective. Thanks for your inquiry.

**Q: The description only mentions 50 blank slides.  Does it also come with specimen slides?**

**Q: My niece needs a microscope for a gram stain ing project. Is it worth it?**
A: You didn't mention her age. I got this for my soon to be 6 year old granddaughter, who has an avid interest in science. I think it's worth it, but if it's for a one-time project and she's not going to pursue more science other than school requirements, you might find something cheaper of decent quality.  The reviews I read are all extremely favorable, so if you want to invest in this, it will probably take her through her current as well as future projects.

**Q: Am I able to move the deck forward/backward and left to right to see all areas of the slid**

The Juniorscope stage does not have X-Y movement, it can only move vertically - up and down.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the outstanding customer service I received after calling the company when the lights didn't work on the unit we initially received. A real person answered the phone, patiently walked me through some possible fixes, and once we'd determined the wiring was likely defective, sent a replacement at no charge, which he said he'd personally test before shipping! The new unit works great and my 13-year-old is having so much fun and actually ENJOYING LEARNING! The ability to view solid objects is so awesome for any age (I'm having fun with it too!) and the included experiment cards are amazing. Highly recommend!
