VTech CS6529-2 - Buggiest piece of hardware ever!!
I purchased this unit from ebay (because of a nearly Rs 2,000/- price difference). Initially I was quite happy with the product. But over the months noticed few VERY major drawbacks:1. Due to the fact that the base unit is not battery operated, and requires constant AC electrical power, (due to heavy current requirement), a POWER OUTAGE causes the base unit to switch off which results in the extensions wasting power while constantly trying to re-connect with the base unit. And of course, with the base unit switched off, the extensions too become non-functional. When the power come back on, the base unit FAILS TO SWITCH ON and the entire thing remains dead.2. In a country like India, the electrical power is seldom 'clean' meaning, it is full of spikes and minor (major in some areas), fluctuations. These spikes and fluctuations also cause the unit to switch off. I even tried using my computer UPS paired with a spike buster but no use. The base unit switches off when there is an electrical spike. (You know there were spikes/fluctuations when your UPS makes that tik-tik sound caused by relays switching to regulated supply).3. Once the base unit is powered off due to any of the above reasons, someone needs to manually unplug and re-plug the power cord of the unit so it boots-up. So unless you have someone watching over this, the phone will remain off and not receive/make any calls. The workaround (which I have yet to try), is to probably power the base unit via a 6V battery. But as a customer, why should you have to solve the manufacturer's faulty design - especially when this cost's so much?4. In this age of the android, you will find the user interface on the phone extensions quite awkward, obsolete and takes some time to understand it. Trying to dial a number stored in the directory is quite cumbersome.Frankly, I'd say you need to look for something better.
