Grill meat well and cleans up easily
I like this grill a lot and recommend it highly. This is an upgrade from a years-old Hamilton Beach contact grill. The teflon has started to bubble on that unit so I decided the time was now to start a purge of teflon in the kitchen. I specifically searched for options that included ceramic grill plates that can be removed to clean. I can't say that I really wanted to consider a Foreman grill (still regarded it as an "infomercial gadget") but the competition did not have overwhelming positive reviews. The user manual is not terribly well-written, but it gives basic good information for successfully cooking with this. I tried out the sear feature with a tenderloin steak and with hamburger. Good result with the steak, came out juicy like from a steakhouse. The hamburgers dried out too much this method. I really recommend cooking burgers at the minimum temp listed for beef on the lid (400 degrees) and it will still sear a bit of crust on the beef without drying out the meat. I've also tried chicken breasts and pork chops, no complaints following the guidlines in the manual. To date I have not used any type of cooking spray or oil on the grill, just bare ceramic as the manual recommends. I suspect the people complaining about cooked on food might be applying oil or else a marinade (or both) is causing problems. The ceramic grill plates are easy to clean. I have been removing the plates, rinsing under hot water at the sink and using a nylon bristle brush to scrub off the stubborn grease, then washing in the dishwasher. My 3-in-1 grill came with ceramic grill plates and the teflon (?) waffle plates. Mostly out of curiosity I tried making waffles. My only waffle-making experience comes from the hotel breakfast-bar waffle irons. I will say ignore the waffle recipes in the user manual, as they recommend 425 degrees for 8 minutes. This will burn your first batch. You can lift the top and check quickly after about 4 minutes and judge if you need to leave it cook another minute. Six minutes is definitely going to give you brown waffles. Also the waffle plates do not heat evenly, so really ditch the waffle plates and buy a real waffle iron if you make them more than once a year. My other "fail" meal on this was grilled cheese sandwiches. I suspected that the bread would squish completely flat, and it did. A sturdy kind of bead for a panini might give a good result, but a typical white or wheat bread cannot hold up under the weight of the lid. The grilling works terrific, cleaning is pretty easy. The controls could be done better. There is no indication on the LED array to show if you are adjusting time or temperature. You push the mode button to change between the 2, but there is no indication for the mode you are in. I think it would be good if the heat would turn off when the timer reaches 0, like other manufacturers do. Warm up time seems slow, typically 8-11 minutes depending on temperature setting. I'm not sure, but it feels like this could have been built more compactly for easier storage. All in all, I am still giving 5 stars because the basic function of cooking meat is very good. I've used it a lot over a month, and I will continue to do so.

Great Grill!
I am really happy with this grill. I'm single with a full time job and busy schedule. This is perfect for me. I very rarely use my full-size oven any more. It came with the ceramic grill plates, a baking plate, and a muffin plate. I have used all 3. I did find that I had a little bit of sticking with the grill plates. I make hot dogs quite a bit. I really did not want to use a spray on the grill plates because I didn't want them to become discolored. So, I bought a cheap roll of aluminum foil and put a piece on the top and on the bottom and spray that. It makes clean up so much easier. I have not found that the grill plates can be cleaned with a wipe of a paper towel. I often have to use a magic sponge to get them looking like new, but that is really no big deal. It's not like you have to scrub really hard, I just like the plates to look spotless. I have made corn on the cob on the grill plates also that came out pretty good. I wrap the ears in aluminum foil with butter, salt and pepper and put them on the grill, then turn them a quarter turn about half way through cooking. The plates are also good for frozen hamburgers and frozen hash browns. I did try to make a grilled cheese sandwich on the grill plates, but had too much cheese on the sandwich and it oozed out onto the plates. But, I think this is just a learning curve. And, the plates cleaned up fine. I have made brownies using the baking plate which came out good. They are a little thinner than using a regular baking dish and you have to keep in mind you are baking from top and bottom so the time may need to be adjusted a little. I have also made corn bread (just a mix) in the baking dish which turned out good, again a little thinner than using a baking dish. It would probably be really good if the mix was doubled. I have also used it to cook the frozen hash browns using some oil in the bottom and they turned out good also. Something to remember is setting the grill back to the horizontal position when baking. It's easy to notice though because your batter will all pool to the front. I also tend to forget to set it back when I grill something so the grease does not run into the grease catcher. Again, a learning curve. I made blueberry muffins in the muffin tin. I did notice though that the tops were high and tended to be cooked by the upper grill plate. I do wish this grill had a height setting feature, but it was not that big of a deal. The baking plate and muffin tin are extremely easy to clean. These actually could be wiped with a paper towel. I have had nothing stick. I purchased the waffle plates separately and am glad I did. I make waffles and freeze any leftovers to be re-heated during the week. I can make two waffles at a time which is fine for one person using a quarter cup measure of batter for each waffle. One thing to keep in mind is both the upper and lower plates are hot, so if you open the lid to stir something you have to be careful not to burn yourself on the top plate. I eventually want to get the low sided baking plate which I think would be good for pancakes, although you can use the high sided baking plate for that. This is great product and I would purchase it again.

Love these but let's hope ceramic coating lasts longer than previous grills!!!
We've had GF grills for the last 8yrs. They are so convenient and easy and grill flawlessly. Our poor oven! Just got this yesterday and fired it up to cook our favorite - grilled salmon with John Henry's All Purpose Shag rub. Perfection! The likes: - Ceramic coating. Seriously, I think I could blow the thing clean. Seriously, I used to leave the grill on and used folded paper towel to clean the grill while it was still hot. Sometimes, I'd use the included spatula. Compared to the teflon/non-stick surface on the accessories and my other grills, these are wonderful. - Size. This grill has a larger cooking surface than previous grills. My bride pre-cooks grilled chicken for work lunches and now she will be able to cook those breasts faster and more efficiently. - Ease of cleaning. See ceramic coating above. Also, the ability to remove the plates is great. I'm not a particular fan because with removal, you increase the chance for scratching and my gut says wear and tear on the plates. No expert though! 😛 - Speed of cooking. A good fllet mignon - 5mins tops. Chicken breast? 8mins. Dislikes: - the pull lever to lower the grilling angle is a bit tough and cumbersome. You have to pull to rotate. Why not just have a friction lever without the need to pull? - you definitely need to read the instructions on using the controls and switching between temperature and timer. As a guy, I'd like to think I'm pretty savvy and try to get stuff going without reading the instructions (you ladies can appreciate!) and if anything, this lets me see how intuitive something is. Up in the Air: - Temperature function. Not really sure why we have a temperature option. The beauty of the GF line is ease of use so when you throw in the temperature function/logic, you increase the chance that something will break in there over time from all that heat but more so, adds complexity to the cooking. If it's for the accessory grilling plates, give it a button and let it go with an auto-off (pancakes, paninis, waffles). For the meats - max temp and shifting cooking duration. - Timer. Meh. We all are used to just using the microwave but I get it. Dorm room cooking could be different! Overall, I love our GF grills and really looking forward to seeing how long this one lasts. The last one we had, the GF GRP4 Next Grilleration grill was great but the grill plates only lasted for 20mos of frequent (at least weekly) use. It only cost $59 so WORTH IT but even if replacement plates were available, buying a new grill is worth it. For $100 - it works!

Absolutely Love Many Features; Disappointed With the Price Gouging of The Additional Plates And Lack Of Cooking Guides/Recipes
I bought this grill several months ago and I love it (for what I can use it for without the extra plates)! I use it two or three times a week. First, what I love about it: 1. Although it does take a long time to heat up, once up to temperature the digital readout gives an accurate temperature to go by for the various uses, much like an electric frypan. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of cooking with it. 2. I absolutely *love* the ceramic griddle plates that come with it. Unlike those on previous Foreman models, the grill plates are truly nonstick. I can burn on meats, cheese, anything, and it wipes right off with a soapy sponge (I prefer to hand wash mine). And if you follow the simple instructions to NEVER USE COOKING SPRAY(!) on the ceramic plates and to handle them with care, never using anything metal or abrasive on them, the ceramic plates will never lose their nonstick property. Nonstick spray will ruin them. 3. The mechanical features work well, unlike other models I have owned. The plates go on and come off easily and fit securely. The tilt lever is easy to work, and the design with the handle-less overhang for lifting the top lid is genius; that part never gets hot and is so handy to use. 4. This shiny red grill just plain look modern and sharp on the kitchen counter. Great to cook on and very easy to clean. So up front it seems like a home run. But... I only gave it three stars for two important reasons: #1: Compared to other Foreman grills I've owned, it's extremely expensive when you consider that it does not come with all the removable plates; if buy the waffle plates, the griddle plate, the slider plate and the omelet plates, the total price will come to over $220.00! And that is outrageous since the additional plates do not have that magical truly nonstick ceramic coating,. And just the waffle plates alone cost as much as some other model grills that include multiple plates! Minus One Star. #2. It's really, really, really irritating (and frustrating) that this beautiful, high tech, very, very expensive grill comes with truly crappy instructions for use and virtually no recipes or examples. The tiny booklet is like a little paper flier that might come with an Asian clock radio or something; it looks like it was printed on a home printer and a couple of staples stuck in the center. It is of very little help in trying to figure out how to actually cook with this grill. The first time I tried to make a simple burger, it was so overcooked and dry that I had to throw it in the trash (using the "temperature guide" printed on the front of the grill lid for beef). Through trial and error I figured out that I have to lower the temperature 50 degrees and grill ground beef for half the time (There is nothing in the little pamphlet about this other than a warning to cook meat to a certain internal temperature to protect the company I suppose). Come on, George Foreman, you're better than this. For the price this grill we should get clear and accurate instructions for the various uses and types of foods including times and temperatures, and a full book of recipes. Shame on you!! I should take off two more stars for this because of the aggravation it causes the new user, but because I like the grill so much after my own lengthy trial and error to figure it out on my own, I'm just taking off one star for this. ----------------------------------------- EDIT ADDED March 2, 2017: I just bumped up a star on this grill because despite the costs of the additional grill plates, I love it. I did purchase the extra plates and use them quite a bit. The waffle plates make perfect waffles. While I'm still unhappy about the lack of recipes or real cooking instructions, after using the Evolve grill for several months I've figured all that out and have been able to get many recipes online, plus come up with my own by trial and error of temperatures and cooking times. I can now make perfect omelets once I realized that the cooking time is actually about half of what is suggested in the little flyer that came with the omelet plates. Same with my burgers; my guess is that in this day and age of trivial lawsuits, the manufacturer must protect themselves by suggesting the cooking times that are too long and temperatures that are too high. Once I cut back on the time and cooking temperature of my hamburgers they now come out perfectly medium and juicy where initially I ended up with leather. I've got the hang of it so I can now use the grill without really having to think about these things too much. I do want to add also, in favor of the Evolve Grill: I have read several reviews from people who complain that the ceramic grill plates lost their non-stick characteristics after just a short time. I've been using mine two to three times a week for several months now and the ceramic plates still look and cook as they were the day I took them out of the package. I think perhaps some folks didn't read that you CANNOT use cooking spray on the ceramic plates or they get sticky. There is absolutely no need to add anything anyway, because these have the most truly on-stick properties I've ever encountered on a cooking surface. No matter what I cook they wipe right off. I always carefully hand wash mine with dishwashing liquid and water and a non-abrasive dish cloth. Although they say they are dishwasher safe I don't want to take a chance in scratching them as they are expensive to replace. So after all these months, still nothing sticks to them. They are awesome!

Outstanding Product Backed By Great Warranty
I really love this grill. It is easy to use and easy to clean. I have been reading the other reviews especially the negative ones and I want to comment on them. A lot of the negative reviews center around the plates not being absolutely non-stick. This is true. Food sometimes does stick to the ceramic plates. But it is easy to dislodge it with a nudge of the spatula. And then the plates are easy to clean with just a little soap and water. It would be better if manufacturers would call the products stick resistant rather than non stick. It's too bad that folks are returning the grill over this issue. They are depriving themselves of an awesome grill. It takes less than a second to dislodge a piece of meat from the grill. I had my grill for about a year and then it died. So why the 5 star review? Because of the great warranty service. My grill died on 10/16. I called the number in the instructions. They had me snip off the end of the electric cord with a couple inches of wire still attached. That is all I had to return. There are secret codes stamped on the metal prongs. And on 10/29 the replacement grill arrived. By the way, I needed to send proof of purchase. Amazon to the rescue. I printed off my order info from Amazon's order page and the company accepted that. The new grill came reasonably fast. And I just made myself a cheeseburger. Yummy! I think it was a fluke that my original grill only lasted a year. So I do highly recommend the grill. And, based on my experience, you can buy in confidence knowing that a real warranty program backs you up.

This is a great grill - cooks beautifully and cleans easily - I'm so glad I bought it
We've had lots of grills - but none like this. Received this a few days ago. I love it. We are in our studio apartment in NYC only every other week - but I really could not cook more than an omelette or a soft boiled egg. There is a microwave, but with only 2 burners and no oven, cooking anything more than an egg was just too messy and too much trouble. The first thing I made were cheese omelette (I bought the grill plates for omelettes). The omelettes were really wonderful. That night I made grilled salmon. The fish was marinated and I used the SEAR option. Honestly - the salmon was amazing. This evening I made grilled chicken thighs - 5 of them fit perfectly. I marinated them and again used the SEAR option. Dinner was delicious. No mess - no spatter - you must use the piece provided for any liquid that might come out. It's actually crazy how easy it is to clean the grill plates. I'm raving - but honestly, this is much better than spending a minimum of $150 each time we go out for dinner or $75 for ordering in. I enjoyed cooking the meal - I am very happy that I went ahead and bought this. I looked at them all online and just felt this was the right one for me - I was right. I am very happy with this grill - I think that it is terrific. I hope this helps you to decide in favor of buying it :) I think you will love it as I do.

Works great for 3 months, then starts to stick more and more
Had one of the original versions a long time ago, so I knew I had to get a bigger one than I thought to cook 3 burgers at once. It is the same on these new ones. It may say 5 servings, but I think that may be only if you fill the entire grill plate with hamburger and then cut it after it's cooked. Like I said though, I knew that. So I got the 5 serving grill to cook 3 burgers at once. One time I cooked 4 burgers at the same time by cutting one in half and putting each half in the bottom corners. At first we just had to get used to the button and display giving no indication if you were on temp or time. It beeps when you press the time/temp button, but you only know which you are on by pressing the up or down arrow. If the temp changes, you were on the temp. If the time changes, you were on time. We got used to that mostly though. The first time I used the grill, I actually had to put the burgers as high up as possible and close the lid quickly because it was so non-stick that they were sliding down the grill plate. They stayed in place after that. It cleaned fairly easy at first. Soap on the soft side of a sponge and scrape a little with the included scraper if needed. Then under running water and the sponge and then after putting the grill plates back on wiping a bit more with paper towel. Starting somewhere at the end of the second month or third month we had it, little bits of burger stick to it until about the middle of the third month of use, sometimes just a few pieces stick to big chunks sticking sometimes and having to use the scraper to get half of the burger off the top plate and the other off half off the bottom plate. This seems to be a common issue since it came out. Reviews from a few years ago mention it on here and on the George Forman cooking website. I just put the grill's model number in search and ordered new plates. I might also see if I can get replacements or some suggestions from the support number in the manual, but who knows how long it will take to jump though all the hoops. Should get replacements by the time the current replacements wear out. I noticed the waffle plates that came with it are the old black or dark grey plates. To bad they thought these new plates worked better. They don't, unless the purpose is repeat orders until you give up and get a different brand of grill. There are days it doesn't get used, but it gets a lot of use. Mostly hamburgers and hotdogs once or twice a day. Several people in the house and not all on the same schedule.

Great grilling
We got this so we could use it in the winter, as it's much to cold to use our outdoor one. We like it so much, we aren't going to keep the outdoor grill. Cooks much faster, and much easier to clean up. I only wish the booklet that came with it had a bit more detail as to temperature settings not only cooking times. We use the waffle grills a lot as well, they are great.
