Sheet Metal Technology Review: Excellent for the Novice and Entertaining for the skilled - Bought this book originally to act as an aid in teaching my teenage sons about the industry of Sheetmetal which I have been a part of for over 18 years as a HVAC installer and repairman. Found the book to be very informative, well written and very entertaining. The project examples are excellent, and they walk you through a project from start to finish. They even give you a project of building your own sheet metal brake out of wood which would be great for any beginner or casual user. Looking forward to purchasing another David Gingery book on designing and building a sheet metal brake. Review: A great book for the novice - I got this book hoping that I could learn to make metal enclosures for electronic projects. I was not disappointed. This book is very easy to understand and the clear illustrations guide you in the whole process of creating the projects depicted on the book. Although I am still in the process of making the leaf brake I am itching to start working on the three drawer tool chest. I recommend this book to anyone that loves to work with their hands. The author is very encouraging without being condescending.

A classic workshop author
I purchased this book to learn more about designing projects with sheet metal. I expeceted a lot from this book, since Gingery is a well-known author of topics in the workshop. I was not disappointed. This book covers a few sheet metal projects. It discusses the basic design process in detail, from the perspective of someone building sheet metal objects for production and sale. The book includes several sheet metal projects, including the too box on the cover. The drawings and description of the projects are enough to easily be able to complete them yourself. I recommend this book, to anyone who wants to learn to turn flat sheet metal into useful projects.

I would buy this book again and again.
This is a great intro to sheet metal fabrication. I was planning to build the brake that is in the book but found a used one that was made in the USA for a drop dead price. So now I'm using the book's information to fab an oven and several other pieces in my shop. Mr. Gingery lays it out in a very easy to understand manner. I would buy this again and again.

Good introduction for beginner...a little thin for the price
This was a useful introduction to basic hand crafting of sheet metal, which I had not done before. I did not execute any of the example projects, but the designs and fabrication steps described were instructive for developing my own projects. My less than 5 star rating reflects some disappointment with the amount of information compared to the price.

Perfect for beginners.
I got this hoping to learn to bend metal. Was not disappointed. I needed to make a long toolbox (30") for my biggest torque wrench. I took his plans, extended the sides and hey, presto, there it was. Easy. Then I shortened the sides and make a small (8") box for my granddaughter. I haven't tried the box with drawers, but I'm confident that I could, with these directions.

Good ideas
You probably won't build one of these because it is easier to buy one, but the how to bend sheet metal to make stuff is worth knowing if you ever do sheet metal work.

The information in the book is helpful and hard to find elsewhere. I read my only myself because I am trying to design some unique thing for the mechanics, I don’t have any other friends doing the same thing.

This book gives you a great place to start using minimal tooling for the projects that advance your skills as complete the projects.
