Does this ink work well on tracing paper?

Depends on a number of things, including the quality tracing paper (quality vellum works fine) and the application of the ink (heavy brush app or a nib pen might not work so hot); I'd recommend just using a lightbox and a heavier stock, personally.

Has anyone used this ink for calligraphy (nibs C-3, C-5, etc.)?

Is the neck opening of this bottle wide enough to get a calligraphy dip pen *with flange* in?

If they haven't changed the design, absolutely.

Is an inkwell necessary.....can I dip straight into the ink bottle?

I shake mine and dip, however when it gets low there are bits of coagulation that fell off the side of the bottle.
