I love this heli, my cat, not so much
I thank God that I don't fly anything with me in it because I crash this helicopter about a thousand times. I tell you this helicopter is extemely fun to fly, albeit a little slow. It was amazingly stable when it is hovering. Here are some of the things I notice about this toy: 1) battery life(per charge): it last about 5 to 6 minutes, which is long enough for cat harassment. I have since bought other RC helicopter to keep me occupied. The charge taking about 30 to 40 minute. After reading other reviewer regarding overcharging, I am now more diligent and unplug the charge whenever it is done charging. 2) operation: I like the simplicity of the control. The "drift" capability in other helicopter makes it more complicated to control. one thing I noticed is that as the helicopter flys toward you, it begin to slow down. Not sure why. I thought it might be due to the angle of the IR emitter. When it flys away, it picks up speed. 3) durability: ultra, ultra durable. I crashed in the ceiling, curtains, walls, cats, more walls and still flying. The rotory blades are a bit worn but still holding up. I have nose-dived 20 to 30 times and nothing broke. On the contrary, I broke the landing skid on the new V911 in the first 30 seconds of flying. I have this helicopter for a month now and am still loving it. 4) modification: the slowness of this helicopte annoyed me a bit so I decided to lop off the two side wings with the missiles and the two tail wings. It did make it fly faster, a lot faster. This translated into more furious crashes. I had to tape a penny on the back of the helicopter to balance it so that it hovers right. Also, remove/disengage the spring for the throttle so you can hover without actively pushing on the lever. That's a crash preventer! Summary: I love the way this helicopter banks and slides through the air. I also love the way it flys straight at you at eye level. It is like having a duel with yourself and see who flinches first, you or yourself. It makes a very good cat toys (for the human). The cat smacked at it a couple of times but the rotor wind and noise scared him. If you are looking for a cat toy, or a toy for your kids, this is the one to get. It looks mean, like a giant flying locust. I didn't think the coast guard version was as cool looking.

Great fun for everyone!
The Syma 109G is excellent. Got 3 of these for a niece and a pair of nephews for Christmas. Everyone loved them including my father (65 yrs), me (25), and the kids (10,9,6). The 6 year old just liked seeing how high he could get the heli before the controller cut out and the heli came crashing back to the pavement. It was a respectable 30 ft, and it survived great after 4 charges of pure punishment. Top notch durability if you ask me. The ten year old eventually got his stuck in a tree, and the balance bar on top of the blades broke because we had to beat it out of the tree with a PVC pipe, the parts kit is about half the price of the heli and is well worth it. One complaint I have is that there is no apparent way to change the channel of the helicopters and all the ones we got were channel A. So don't plan on flying two at the same time. But even so, they were excellent fun for everyone who was able to get their hands on a controller. Don't plan on flying them outside in the open, even a 1-2 mph breeze makes a pretty big difference. I had the kids fly them between some school buildings, and the 6 year old got his on the roof of the building pretty quick, but it was an excellent location for the 9 and 10 year old. The flying time is about as advertised probably around 6 minutes, which is fine. They are surprisingly easy to fly if you know a little bit about how they work. The 6 year old couldn't master it, the 9 year old could control the general direction of flight and the 10 year old could make it go pretty much where he wanted. Regardless of skill level they all loved the them. As far as actual maneuverability this heli is great. My niece and nephews would hold out their hand I and could land it on their hands pretty consistently after a bit of practice, It helps that they "help" by moving their hands a few inches. I after a few tries I could also land it on the blade of a ceiling fan (kinda tough to do since the fan is very close to the ceiling, but with more practice would be quite doable). The forward and backward speed is about walking pace. Now that I've gone home after Christmas, I can't help but buy one for me. I plan on taking it to class and flying up to one of my "cool" professors, then landing it on his desk. These are the most fun I've had for under $30 in quite some time. I highly recommend the Syma 109G.

Excellent, Easy to use Helicopter, Not so good Quality Control
This helicopter is extremely durable, as can be attested to my roommate crashing it into my high walls and consequentially dropping it directly onto tile from a large height. It has survived over 100 missions, the majority of which ended in a spectacular crash landing. Only recently did I damage (big chips flew off) the two lower helicopter blades, and even then, the helicopter still flies like a champ. This helicopter is extremely easy to fly, it even seems a little slow to maneuver, providing an easy learning curve. Now that I'm a proficient flier, its still fun, but the slowness is a tad frustrating when attempting to dive-bomb my friends. The one difficult aspect that everyone that flies my helicopter has to overcome is the takeoff. For some reason, on my particular helicopter, the back "wheel" is slightly lower than the front, forcing a quick takeoff, otherwise the helicopter just flies backwards. However, it isn't enough of a difficulty that I wouldn't recommend this for kids 8+. I wouldn't try to fly it outdoors except in a large park, I nearly lost it when a breeze that I could just barely feel swept it to the edge of my neighbor's roof. I really like the USB charger, although mine doesn't come with a wall adapter. It has a light which glows bright when the helicopter is fully charged. I would recommend testing to make sure it works before giving it as a gift, my first one wouldn't fly forwards, only backwards. The Amazon return process was easy, they gave me a printable UPS Label.

Syma S109 vs. Syma 107 vs. Air Hogs Sharpshooter vs. Iron Eagle
These little Helicopters always amazed me! I always wanted one. Expecially now that my kids are a little older (10). Sorry for the lengthy review! Just trying to help the skeptical shoppers based on my personal experience. All Helicopters are flown indoors with 8 foot ceilings. Helicopter 1 - Rating 0-5 Stars - $25 Christmas 2010 I finally bought one, it was from Kohls for $19.99. I was excited and couldn't wait to try it. I put fresh batteries in it and away it went. Right into the wall. I tried to calibrate the trim, but still no luck. This thing was out of control! I inspected everything. Nothing was bent nor misaligned. I tried, and tried again. It never flew with complete control. Kept crashing. Needless to say, it went back to the store. I was discouraged and thought that all Helicopters were designed the same and that they had an extremely difficult learning curve. I knew spending $50 or more they would be easier Heli's to fly. (At least that was what most of the reviews said.) And I wasn't about to spend that much money on them. Helicopter 2 - Rating 4-5 Stars - $24 Earlier in the year I picked up an Air Hogs Sharpshooter with the firing missiles. I thought it was cool and got it on sale for $24 at Target. Couldn't wait to give it to my kids for Christmas. Yeah it was a long wait, but my patience paid off Christmas morning 2011 when my kids opened the gift. They were excited and wanted to try it that second. We put batteries in it and charged it for the 45 minutes. It took a few tries to adjust the trim, but I was instantly surprised at how easy it was to fly! Even my kids learned after a few tries. Yeah it hit the wall or the ceiling about 50 times. But is durable and like a Timex, it keeps working. My kids love it and have fun shooting at targets and of course - each other! The only downside to the thing (other than the obvious charging time vs. flying time) is that the trim has to be adjusted after -almost- every flight. We all learned to trim the thing in seconds and it still maintains their interest. Helicopter 3 - Rating 5-5 Stars - $25 Went to In-laws the same day and the kids told Grandpa about the Air Hogs Helicopter they got for Christmas and how much they liked it. Grandpa was surprised at how fast they learned and brought out a Syma 107 as a challenge to them. He wanted to see how good they were for himself. And they showed him just that. I also took notice of the ease of use and the "Gyro" action it had that the Sharpshooter did not have. I tested it thoroughly and was impressed! I want one now! The L.E.D. lights were very colorful and added to the "coolness". Then, as I was flying it, one of the Nephews walked up to it while it was in the air, and with his plastic hammer "WHACKED!" it out of the air! He hit it hard! I was mad for my Father-in-law. I thought for sure this thing was a goner! Especially how fragile they are with all the tiny moving parts. I picked it up and inspected it. No notice of bent, broken or damaged parts. It flew just the same, and didn't even need a trim adjustment! I was convinced and wanted to buy one to compete in arial games with the kids. Went home that same evening and shopped Amazon.com for the same model. Reviews were great! And then I noticed other models that MIGHT be better, which made it difficult for me to make up my mind. I held off from buying one for now and didn't want to make a hasteful purchase wishing I had waited and bought a different one for around the same price. Helicopter 4 - Rating 5-5 Stars - $50 A week after Christmas I took my kids to get haircuts and afterward, went next door to check out a Toy store that sold developmental and educational toys. My kids love to go in there and browse around. Then we seen an Iron Eagle Helicopter. They had one on display to try and I gave it to my kids first. They loved it! Very similar to the Syma 107 and I would definitely recommend it if willing to spend the $50. I wasn't. I told the storekeeper, after I tried it, that I would buy it for $25, but she declined the offer. The "Gyro" on it worked great and hovered the same as the Syma 107. Just couln't justify the $50. But instead I went home and checked out prices here on Amazon.com and seen it there for $30. I wanted it and compared it to the Syma 107 having similar reviews. Helicopter 5 - Rating 5-5 Stars - $29 Then I noticed what others were looking at. They were buying the Syma S109G Apache AH-64 3-Channel Mini Indoor Helicopter. With only 146 reviews vs the Syma 107 with 435 at time of writing this review, I was hesitant, but took a gamble at the new model hoping for better upgrades and ease of use. I ordered it 2 days ago and got it in hand today. Super fast shipping from Xheli on Amazon! Brand New and ready to fly with a full charge. Of course I needed batteries for the controller. And it came with a USB charger preventing from replacing the 6 AA more often than you should in the controller. I had my kids try it out first and they were amazed at how easy it was to fly. Just like the other 3, they found the controls easy. There was a slight learning curve from the Air Hogs unit to the Syma because of the "Gyro" technology. They weren't used to the forward/backward control on the Syma. The Air Hogs unit flew forward naturally, but not backward. They liked the Syma alot, but gravitate to their Air Hogs Heli. We fly both simultaneously and have fun racing from point A to point B. Overall I am happy with both the Air Hogs for my Son and the Syma S109G for myself. The pros are that they are both VERY easy to fly right out of the box. And the Syma S109 has a USB charger plug which connects to the computer to avoid draining battery on the controller (Air Hog unit does not). The Syma also doesn't need the constant trim adjust seen in the Air Hogs controller. The cons naturally, arecharging time of 45 minutes on both and battery replacement on the Air Hogs controller. The Heli's both have a permanent, Li-polymer battery which have 4-10 minutes flight time. Recommendations: Iron Eagle or Syma (Either one) with advanced Gyro technology and Air Hogs Sharpshooter for firing missiles. All super easy to fly!!! Take your pick.

Freaking awesome. 10x better than 1st gen copters
**** UPDATE after a year and a half of owning and flying this. Amazingly, still going strong after all this time, and still using original battery! Has to be the best toy value around. One very easy mod to make your heli move a little faster (forward), is to get some solder, and wrap a few coils around the nose at the very tip (don't block the IR sensor though, so be careful if you add weight using something else, like a coin as some people do). The way the model is shipped, is too light in the front, IMO, because (at least for mine), I could go quite a bit faster BACKWARD than I could forward. To add some forward collective speed at the slight loss of some agility, I highly recommend adding a little weight, so that you can still go backwards, but just barely. On a side note, I enjoyed flying this micro copter so much, I bought it's big BIG brother, the Syma 023G, so I could fly outdoors (RF instead of IR allows this to happen). Love that one as well, and has the exact same mechanics (but with additional tail rotor boost). http://www.amazon.com/Syma-S023G-Apache-Military-Helicopter/dp/B0057PEB2G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353080357&sr=8-1&keywords=syma+s023 **** What a difference a gyro makes! Incredible...I tried one of the 1st gen micro R/C copters (no gyro on those) not long after they came out, and found them to be extremely difficult to control and not much fun because of it. This generation with the gyro is just amazing though...SO stable, SO easy - but not boring. There is still a learning curve for complete R/C noobies that will make this a great first R/C copter, but I look at it almost like a challenge...trying to master this little beast is FUN! This also actually looks like a real helicopter, compared to the ones I bought previously, which looked like....well like R/C copters - completely unrealistic. The LED lights are awesome so you can fly at night (my kids LOVE that - the dog...not so much), and the thing even seems to behave like a real helicopter, with ground effect and having to reduce speed (thrust?) to tilt forward (I am no pilot or physicist, but I do know that the previous models I tried did not give me any kind of sense of "this thing FEELS like I am flying a real helicopter!") Gonna stop now because I sound like I work for the company (not even sure who the company is actually, but whoever it is, they sorely need an English native to write the English part of the instruction manual!) Can't recommend this enough. Easy easy 5 stars. FYI if you are interested in modding your Syma (specifically, the cheap, easy and awesome tail rotor mod that makes it faster and more agile), you should buy the model that looks like the R/C copter (107G I believe). Found this out the hard way, but I still prefer this one for the looks. Video of the mod results: [...]

Most fun you can have for $25
I ordered 8 of these (various Syma models) as Christmas gifts this year for all the guys and they were a hit with everyone. I've never seen so many people have so much fun for such a long period of time with such an inexpensive toy. I figured they'd all be broken within a matter of minutes but they actually held up very well. One of them (Coast Guard 111) was defective out of the box; wouldnt move forward because of an issue with the tail motor (could move backward). Items that were broken over the course of the day were a couple tail rotors, a main rotor head, and some misc parts (ie canopies, side pods from a 108, etc). I was going to return the 111 but decided to just order another and we canabalized the 111 for the parts to repair the broken rotor head on the 108. Of the models purchased, the 108 seems to be the most aggressive in terms of flight characteristics. The 109 (Apache) seems to be the most stable of the lot and was very easy and predictable to flight in tight spaces. The 102 (Black Hawk) seemed to have the most lift out of the bunch but also had the touchiest throttle (tough to hover without throttle input where the rest of them seemed to hover without as much throttle manipulation). We've only flown 4 of the 8 and of those 4, 1 was defective out of the box. I'll update after this weekend (rest of them will be given out) and report on how they're doing. I cant believe how durable they have been though; none of the recipients had flown helis before with the exception of myself (limited experience) and it showed. I cant count how many times these things have hit the concrete from 8-10' off the ground. None of the main blades have broken yet but we did have the one head failure late Christmas night. Of the 3 that were operational all day, the 108 consistantly had the longest run time of the bunch and usually last 2 minutes longer than the 102 and 109. The 102 and 109 had very similar runtime to one another; perhaps the 108 we got just had a very good battery (2 more 108s will be used this weekend so I'll report if there is a pattern with the longer runtimes). We were able to fly 3 of them at the same time. I'd read that while the 108 had 3 channel selections, only 2 seemed to work. The 108s remote wouldnt bind to any of the other helis. We put the 102 on channel B, the 109 on channel A, and used channel B on the 108 (which reportedly didnt work from other reviews I've read) and were able to fly interference free all afternoon. The remote from the 108 is a bit different from the others and has 3 channel selections vice the 2 that are available on the other 2 models. I guess channel may be a bit confusing here, the remote and heli is a 3 channel unit providing throttle, rudder, and forward/backward motion. There are also the channels (pretty sure that was how it was labeled in the manual) that can be used to separate your remotes from the others so you can fly simultaneously around other helis.

Fun in 6 minute spurts
I ordered the S109G helicopter for my husband for Christmas. He loved that it was put together and with some practice, he was flying it like a pro in no time. Running in to walls and other house hazards, it's really quite durable. It also takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. When the battery is wearing down, it becomes irresponsive to the remote. Unfortunately, the battery doesn't last too long~ 6 minutes or so on a 25 minute charge. My recommendation for the manufacturer is to fix this problem quick. It gets annoying, especially with our toddler saying "Fly the helicopter, Daddy!" and the darn thing sputters out. It has a shorter attention span that she does. On a separate note, if you find your device having steering problems, the tail blade may be locked up. There's no replacement part and it seems easy to remedy with just your hands. Update: After two weeks and multiple crashes, the Apache AH-64 puttered out and and no replacement parts are available. If you're going to spend the money, I'd recommend going with something more durable or at the least, be repaired in the event of a breakdown.

Best Syma yet!
I've owned the S107, S108, and S109 and this is easily the best of the three indoor choppers at this price point, by Syma. Looks: This thing is, well, beautiful. The S107 looked kind of like a gyrocopter but because of the open back of the plastic cockpit, you could kinda see its innards so it still looked like a hobby toy (basically, crafted for function with a little form added). The 108, was mostly all covered and this made it look neat, however the crafting of the chassis, the color, and the decals looked like a dollar store toy. The 109, however, gorgeous. The thing has so much detail on it from separately painted dual tail propellers (just for show) and extra design on the top Apache engines. This looks like it was hand crafted to show off, and what a beaut it is. Function: For anyone who has owned similar choppers, you have a mental muscle memory for how these things should control and you adjust to it. For those new to these, if you've ever played a video game before where you flew a plane or raced a car, you know how a good flying game should respond so with that said, here's my analogy: The S107 controlled fairly well, nothing too crazy, however you had to really push it to do what you want, like oversteering in a driving game. Small movements required a lot of controller movements. The nice thing about that is it meant it never got away from you, however, it always felt like there was input latency. The 108 had a mind of it's own. That control scheme required many flights and crashes to learn where "just right" was for what you wanted it to do, felt like controlling a video game where the character is on ice where little controller input had big impact on direction (the inverse of the 107). The 109, however, is perfect. It feels like its doing exactly what I want it to do. It takes slight movements or big, and responds appropriately. It was the first one that felt perfect, no learning on the part of the pilot. If you're thinking of getting an RC plane for yourself or your kid, or a significant other, get them this one. Zero learning curve if they have ever used a video game controller because their mind already knows how input and output on a controller should work and this is the first Syma to emulate that perfect feel of total control yet.

What a waste of money
Heli has stopped having enough power to lift off.. What a waste of money..Blades spin but not fast enough to propel in the air.. I have no idea why. Don't buy it. Wal Mart RC helis are much better... I was expecting more from this SYMA brand.. never again

Superior helicopter - controls are very responsive - great quality product
I have bought smaller and cheaper helicopters in the past for my children and have always regretted it as they have easily broken and been extremely difficult to control. I therefore ordered this one with an open mind. I hoped that the price reflected a superior quality. I was not disappointed! The helicopter comes very well packaged with moulded internal packaging keeping the delicate helicopter safe. Inside the box you also get the controller and a bag with charging cable and mini screwdriver with which to open the battery compartment. You will need to buy 6 AA batteries as they don't come included. The controller is quite substantial. The controls are very responsive and quite sensitive, but this means that once you get to grips wit it, you have total control making it a great helicopter to fly. You can fly it up, down, forwards, backwards and hover. It functions just like a real helicopter. The actual helicopter is really robust for such a delicate looking thing. It did take the first few minutes to get a grip with how to control it, so we did have a fair few crash landings. There was no damage to the helicopter though as it is really solid and good quality. You get around 5 minutes of flying with a charge time of around 20 minutes for the helicopter which is fairly good. We used this inside as the weather is quite windy at the moment and we have damaged a drone in the past by flying into a tree in the wind, so for now we have confined it to the house, but in the warm, mild summer days we will take it out into the garden to have a pay with it. Overall I would say that this is well worth the cost. As I said before, I have bought cheaper helicopters, but they have been cheaply built, hard to control and easy to break. This helicopter is worth the additional cost as it is far superior in quality and ease of use. The only advice I would give is to start out very gently and very slowly with the tiniest movements on the control until you understand how it works, then you will have a lot of fun.
