Great Design
Unless the job is small, using a handsaw on anything these days is typically not a lot of fun. The DeWalt 5 in 1 hacksaw doesn't change that but, it does help you make the best of the situation. It does that by first, offering an amazingly rigid frame. It is not steel but it is very rigid in spite of the fact the front end hand grip is readily removable. Second, the blade tensioning mechanism was (I thought) a bit funky at first but given a few minutes of familiarization it as a very well designed aspect of the saw ... and it really is simple to use (once you get past its learning curve). With a high tension, sawing is made far more accurate and smooth. Next is the saw's versatility ... gee with 5 tools in one, that is a hard feature to beat. No need to repeat the product description here. I examined several hack saws at a local hardware store (at a higher and lower price point) before settling on a purchase. I wanted to handle the thing before I bought it. Well, the moment I picked up the DeWalt, I felt this is a surprisingly robust hand saw and the feel, heft, balance and overall impression sold me over others that are considered peer products and at a similar price point (or higher). One reviewer said he shaved off material to let the tensioning lock system operate more smoothly. I agree that the tensioning lock is tight but the saw is new, and I have the opinion it will loosen up naturally over time and with normal use. But I did add a small dab of some white lithium grease to smooth the process. The grease will not help it wear, but will help it operate more smoothly during the interim ... and it will do so without degrading the integrity of the tool. For those times I need to change the blade I will reach for a small screw driver to unlatch the lock mechanism Admittedly, I have used the saw only on limited applications at this time including such things as angle iron, PVC, and thin plywood ... all with excellent and precise results. I have not yet used it as a jab saw or the 45 degree option, but look forward to the opportunity to do so. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and wholeheartedly recommend this saw to anyone looking for a solid hacksaw with a great robust design, and optimum versatility.

Versatile hacksaw
Gonna keep this short. This hacksaw is pretty good, I like that it multiple ways to be used, though I've barely used it detached. It feels really sturdy and is quite comfortable to handle, it is a bit heavy though so cutting is a bit more of a workout then it already is, but that's not a problem to me.

Great tool
I bought for the name. Dewalt has always made quality tools and this is no exception. It's a great addition to any tool box. You get a hacksaw that has an excellent tensioner on it. I feel like any tighter and it's gonna break, I love it. You pop off one handle and you have a hole saw for drywall. There's 3 different ways to angle the blade to fit any situation and you don't need any tools to do it! I would consider this a great buy. Between this and a mini hacksaw for plumbing you are all set for metal cutting.

Solid
Didn't realize a hacksaw could be made this well. Replaced a cheapo and wow, what a difference. Blades are held on super tight. And its versatile. Lots of optional configurations I wouldn't have thought of

High quality saw
Works great. A bit heavy, but otherwise a very high quality saw. Happy to have this. The 45 degree cut option is really neat too.

Excellent modern take on the traditional hacksaw
Over the last ten years I have gradually come to own many DeWalt tools from some of their earlier corded saws to their latest XR 20 volt cordless tools. Almost all of the DeWalt tools I have owned have been of superior quality, and this item is no different. For years I had a cheaper $10 hacksaw from Home Depot that worked fine but it was getting a bit flimsy and after some searching, I decided to try this five in one hacksaw from DeWalt. As the name implies, you get five functions: 1 - A regular hacksaw that holds 12 inch blades 2- Detaching the front end, and reattaching the main blade gives you a low profile hacksaw 3 - Detaching the front end and then using it with the included jab blade gives you a pistol grip jab saw (as for cutting holes in sheet rock) 4 - Detaching the front end and attaching the main hacksaw blade into the yellow frame (with a bolt) gives you a long reach saw 5 - Detaching the blade and moving it to the other position gives you a 45 degree saw Not only do you get five separate functions, but I really like the manner in which the blade is secured and tightened down. The lower black handle under the grip is slid back and pushed down. Then there is a tension bolt that is adjusted by hand to release an old blade or tighten down a new blade. And then, the handle is popped back up and slid into place so that nothing affects the tension. Excellent system which works very well when using the saw. In short, you can spend $45 to buy five to seven different saws to have all the functions that this hacksaw gives you, or you can simply buy this DeWalt model for about $18. For me, I spent the $18 and have been very happy with this addition to my tool box. Five stars.
