Do i have to purchase a seperate card or no?

you need to purchase a graphics card.

Is it possible to use this graphics amplifier with a laptop other than an alienware?

The Graphics Amplifier uses a proprietary connector developed by Dell exclusively for their products, so unless other manufacturers can get the license from Dell to use their proprietary connector, no other laptop will ever be able to use this.

Hi guys I just want to know out of all the gtx 980ti cards which one will fit in the amplifier?msi, gigabyte, evga etc...please help!

It's not just about the manufacturer - it's also about the shape and size of the card.I've managed to fit these two:EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC+ ACX 2.0+Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming WindforceThis one I can confirm does not fit:Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming Windforce

I have the older M17x R4 (2012) will it work with the graphics amplifier? What actually makes this compatible with the Laptop?

It will only work for R6 laptop. I have the M17X R5 and it is not able to connect with this stuff because older Alienware do not have the special interface. :)
