It seemed like a pretty good career move, and for the most part it was. Demi Moore will never top any rational list of great actresses, but as her career stalled in the mid-1990s she had enough internal fire and external physicality to be just right for her title role in G.I. Jane . Her character's name isn't Jane--it's Jordan O'Neil--but the fact that she lacks a penis makes her an immediate standout in her elite training squad of Navy SEALs. She's been recruited as the first female SEAL trainee through a series of backroom political maneuvers, and must prove her military staying power against formidable odds--not the least of which is the abuse of a tyrannical master chief (Viggo Mortensen) who puts her through hell to improve her chances of success. Within the limitations of a glossy star vehicle, director Ridley Scott manages to incorporate the women-in-military issue with considerable impact, and Moore--along with her conspicuous breast enhancements and that memorable head-shaving scene--jumps into the role with everything she's got. Not a great movie by any means, but definitely a rousing crowd pleaser, and it's worth watching just to hear Demi shout the words "Suck my ----!!" Undoubtedly one of Moore's best roles
[WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS] G.I. Jane is a 1997 American action drama film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Demi Moore, Viggo Mortensen, and Anne Bancroft. The film tells the fictional story of the first woman to undergo training in U.S. Navy Special Warfare Group. Firstly, my hat goes out to Moore in this particular film; she tends to play characters I develop some kind of ambiguity towards (Because, she can kind of fell like she's "just there"), and this role sets her apart from any others I have seen portrayed. Her unwavering demeanor and strong sense of will are palpable, and it remains intact throughout the entirety of this film. If I had to pick one sole reason to recommend this viewing, Moore's performance would be the first one that comes to mind. Sexism in the military is commonplace, and even now measures are taken to bar women from pursuing certain jobs in the military. While this kind of discrimination has been made illegal, this doesn't keep traditionalist from "weeding the woman out" and making their careers exponentially harder for them when compared to their treatment towards men. 'G.I. Jane' does a spectacular job in including social commentary and dialogue regarding sexist policies, and makes a good point of letting its audience know why such standards are unacceptable and considerably outdated. [SPOILERS START HERE] On that note, however, this film lacked in providing some insight behind the decisions made by other characters in this film. The clearest example of this is the scene in which O'Neil confronts DeHaven after dropping out of her preliminary round of training. When O'Neal threatens to expose DeHaven for intentionally sabotaging her progress, Dehaven responds with "It's all he said she said" in what is undoubtedly a mocking tone. Not even minutes later, DeHaven changes her mind and restores her position in the U.S. Military. In addition to this, the idea that other entities are hoping O'Neail would not succeed wasn't sold as solidly as I would have expected it to be. There are plenty of scenes that feature figures of power having conversations about O'Neail behind her back, and at no point do they make it clear that her success would not be in their best interest. This certainly doesn't twart the value or quality of this film, but it would have moved this film in a more compromising direction. [SPOILERS END HERE] A movie about power and grace when the whole world seems to be against you: I would recommend!

Ein toller Film und die Besetzung mit Demi Moore in der Rolle als Jane, könnte nicht besser sein. Vonwegen ,Frauen beim Militär ,die macht nicht auf dicke Hose und zeigt ACTION! Diesen Film muß man gesehen haben.
