I have had luck in keeping the chill away during lap swimming. But.....this isn't thick like a wet suit so it will only do so much in cold water. I'm not sure of the pool water temperature where I swim, but keeping this shirt tight will be the most effective in keeping the chill away.

What kind of swimsuit can I buy to hide my gut and moobs

I'd go for a looser fitting (not tight) rash guard in black. Or get a little tan on your torso so you're not stark white...who cares and enjoy life with your gut and moobs.
