Will this unit fit into a regular gfci footprint? i am replacing a fan control in a "2 gang" box so will need a different faceplate.

I currently have mine installed in a dual switch box along side a motion sensor for my bathroom light. my dew senor replaced the switch for the fan and the motion sensor replaced the switch for the light; both in the same switch box. both fitted very nicely with enough "wiggle room."

My wall switch is too far from shower. Can this sensor/switch be used closer to the shower in a 3-way switch type fashion? (2 switches for fan)

How far is too far? My switch is between 6 and 8 feet from the shower and it works fine.. You just might have to play with the sensitivity to get it to come on when desired. Ad far as a 3-way application, I don't think it will work. Three way switches have an additional screw for the runner between switches that this switch does not have.

What is the difference between the fs-300-w1 (amazon) and the hs-c00-w7 (big box store)?

The same except the HS-C00-W7 has QUE technology. Their claim is it is Ultra Moisture Sensing Adaptive Technology.
